Akichan Ramen
あきちゃんラーメン
Overview
Akichan Ramen is a specialty restaurant that opened in Ono, Yamashina Ward, Kyoto City in 2025, marking the Kansai region's first branch of the "Chan-kei" ramen style, a new force that originated mainly in Kanto. The Chan-kei style spread from restaurants like Kanda Chie-chan, Shinjuku Ecchan, and Ikebukuro Hiro-chan, and this shop is also an official member of the "Chan no Noren Kumiai" (Chan's Noren Association). Its signature dish is "Chuka Soba" (Chinese Soba), served in a bowl filled with clear pork broth topped with a layer of oil. It is surprisingly hot from the first sip, and the oil film traps the heat, keeping it warm until the very end. The well-seasoned soup appears light but has deep richness and umami, making you want to drink every last drop. The noodles are flat, straight noodles from Shinjuku Daruma Seimen, offering a smooth and chewy texture that pairs perfectly with the soup. What's particularly noteworthy is the chashu; several freshly cut, large slices are included, boasting a rich flavor that goes well with rice. Another pillar of the menu is "Mori Chuka," a tsukemen-style dish. Even standard servings come with a generous amount of springy flat noodles, enjoyed with a seafood-based dipping sauce. On the table, you'll find minced fresh garlic, special chili pepper, and vinegar, allowing you to customize your meal, perhaps with a raw egg, takana rice, or negimeshi (green onion rice).
How to Order

1Before Entering
About a 3-minute walk from Ono Station on the Tozai Subway Line, along the old Nara Kaido road. There are free parking spaces on both sides of the store, but they tend to fill up quickly during lunchtime due to popularity. The restaurant is open year-round from noon without closing between shifts, so it's easier to enter without waiting if you avoid peak hours. During busy times, please wait in line outside the store.
2Purchasing Meal Tickets
There is a ticket vending machine outside the store where you purchase meal tickets before entering. The vending machine does not have photos, and menu names are in Japanese. Choose either the signature Chuka Soba or the tsukemen-style Mori Chuka, and add extra chashu, large portion, raw egg, or rice dishes as desired. Payment methods include cash, credit cards (including tap-to-pay), e-money, and QR code payments. Cashless payments may take a little longer to process.
3Seating and Receiving Your Order
There are 12 counter seats and table seats (3 tables of 4 seats each). Take your meal ticket, enter the store, hand it to a staff member, and take a seat. Drinking water is self-service; please draw it yourself from the water dispenser. Orders are typically served within a few minutes to about 7-8 minutes.
4Other Notes
You can enjoy customizing your flavor with the minced fresh garlic, special chili pepper, and vinegar available on the table. However, the chili pepper can be very spicy even in small amounts, so use it sparingly. The soup is very hot, so be careful not to burn yourself initially. A popular way to eat is to place chashu on rice, add garlic and soup, and enjoy it like a chashu rice bowl.
