Bazoku Asakusa-ten is a chuka soba restaurant specializing in handmade noodles, located in Kaminarimon 2-chome, a 4-minute walk from Asakusa Station (Asakusa Line, Ginza Line). This Asakusa branch of Bazoku, whose main store is in Nippori, is known as a hidden gem where you can savor handmade noodles in a relaxed atmosphere, free from the bustling crowds of the main store. The greatest feature is the noodles, which are made by hand right in the restaurant. The process of repeatedly pounding the dough, gradually thinning it down, is a famous performance that can be observed through a glass partition. It offers a different direction from the rich, sesame paste-based Tantanmen, crafted to highlight the translucent, chewy, and smooth handmade noodles as the star of the dish. The Bazoku Tsukemen (dipping noodles) (1400 yen) comes with a unique tsukejiru (dipping soup) that hints at both sourness and sweetness, setting it apart from other rich pork bone and seafood-based tsukemen. A new menu item, the Black Sesame Tantanmen (1300 yen), is a non-spicy Tantanmen that can be enjoyed even by those who dislike spiciness. It features rare white thin noodles made from 100% cake flour, complemented by a rich black sesame soup accented with star anise. For sides, the large gyoza (dumplings) boast a chewy skin, with the attractive texture coming from skins made using the same method as the noodles. How to Order
1Before entering
This hand-pulled noodle Chinese soba shop is located at Kaminarimon 2-7-6, a 4-minute walk from Asakusa Station (Asakusa Line/Ginza Line) and a 5-minute walk from Taharamachi Station (Ginza Line). Open Tue-Sun 11:15-20:30, closed Mondays. Compared to the Nippori main store, it's a calmer location for dining, often allowing entry without a wait even around 18:30 on weekdays with about 80% occupancy. It's relatively easier to enter after 13:00 on weekends or during rainy weather.
2Ordering
Upon entering, orders are taken verbally. You wait while listening to the lively sounds of hand-pulled noodles being made in the shop. Payment is made at the register upon leaving. There is no ticket vending machine, so you order from your seat after looking at the menu. Signature items include Tantanmen (1200 yen), Bazoku Tsukemen (1400 yen), Black Sesame Tantanmen (1300 yen), Tantan Tsukemen, Yakisoba, Gyoza, and Rice (may sell out). Payment is cash only; cards, e-money, and QR code payments are not accepted.
3Seating and receiving
Mainly counter seating, with one partition for every two seats. Since customers are packed into seats, it can feel cramped, and the distance to your neighbor becomes closer during crowded times. Dishes are served in about 3-10 minutes, with items other than thick noodles tending to be served faster.

The biggest feature is the hand-pulled noodles made in-store. The process of pounding the dough to gradually thin it out can be observed from outside through the glass. The translucent, chewy and smooth noodles have a unique charm characteristic of hand-pulled noodles with varying thicknesses, and a rare 100% cake flour blend (for Black Sesame Tantanmen). The Tantanmen soup is slightly light with a slightly strong sourness and mild spiciness, taking a unique approach different from rich sesame paste-based Tantanmen. It's designed to highlight the star-quality texture of the noodles. The large side gyoza have chewy skins, and their texture, made with the same method as the noodles, is appealing. Many local regulars frequent the shop, maintaining the atmosphere of a traditional Chinese soba shop despite being in a tourist area.
