1Before Entering

Located on the ground floor of "The Yokohama Front" commercial facility, about a 3-minute walk along the deck from Yokohama Station's Kita-Nishi Exit. It is open year-round from 11:00 to 23:00 (last food order at 22:00), but closes once the soup runs out. While Hamatora across the street often has a long line, Fuunji Yokohama is usually less crowded, and you can often get in without waiting during weekday lunch or evening hours. On Sundays, there may be a line of about 10 people at opening. Please note that there are no restrooms inside the shop.

2Purchasing Meal Tickets / Ordering

Next to the entrance, there is a digital touch-panel ticket vending machine, which supports language switching for menu names. Purchase your meal ticket here before being guided to your seat by a staff member. For both tsukemen and ramen, regular and large portions of noodles are available for the same price. Payments can be made with cash and transportation IC cards (such as Suica), but credit cards and QR code payments are not accepted.

3Seating and Receiving Your Order

The seating consists of 15 counter seats and 2 tables (8 seats), with ample space between seats and deep tables, making it easy to use even with strollers or for groups. It takes about 5 to 10 minutes from handing over your meal ticket until your order is served. During busy times, you will be guided to any available seat.

4Other

You can change the flavor with the shichimi and coarsely ground black pepper provided on the table. The dipping soup is highly concentrated, so dipping about one-third of the noodles is usually sufficient to get a good flavor; be careful not to dip too much. Towards the end, it is recommended to dilute the dipping soup with the soup-wari pot and finish it like ramen.

Miso Mendokoro Tasakaya (Ikebukuro): Navigating the Japanese-Only Ticket Machine and a Review of its Robust Miso Ramen

Miso Mendokoro Tasakaya, a miso ramen specialist located in Nishi-Ikebukuro, is just about a 5-minute walk from Ikebukuro Station's West Exit. This shop is known for its hearty miso ramen: a thick, rich, slightly sweet miso broth, firm thick noodles, melt-in-your-mouth chashu, and a towering pile of crisp bean sprouts (moyashi) – a truly robust and voluminous bowl. The menu features four main series: Miso Ramen, Kara-Miso Ramen (spicy miso), Aemen (a brothless mixed noodle dish), and IWGP Geki-Kara Ramen (extra hot). This guide, based on our visit on Friday, May 22, 2026 (arrived at 6:39 PM with a 13-person queue), provides photos and tips for first-time visitors to Japan. We'll cover how to navigate the Japanese-only, no-photo ticket vending machine using a color guide, understand the queuing situation (only 9 counter seats and long noodle cooking times mean slower turnover), tips to avoid crowds, and the cash-only payment policy.
