Iekei Ramen Bushoya
家系ラーメン 武将家
Overview
Located in Sotokanda, a 4-minute walk from JR Akihabara Station's Electric Town Exit, "Iekei Ramen Bushoya" is a prominent ramen shop. As Akihabara's leading representative of Yokohama Iekei Ramen (a style of ramen originating in Yokohama known for its rich pork bone and soy sauce broth) tracing its lineage back to Musashiya, it boasts consistent popularity. The soup is a Yokohama Iekei-style shoyu-tonkotsu (soy sauce pork bone broth), offering a rich and profound flavor that is also easy to eat and mild. Its exquisite balance allows Iekei's signature smooth texture and umami (savory taste) to permeate your body, ensuring a perfectly delicious meal even when ordered with "zenbu futsuu" (all normal, i.e., without customizing the strength of flavor, oil, or noodle doneness). The noodles, specially made by Sakai Seimen, are medium-thick and straight. They are less wavy than typical Iekei noodles and cut to an ideal short length, creating a satisfying tempo that allows you to slurp them down one after another. The toppings are also of high quality. In particular, the three generous slices of pork shoulder chashu (braised pork) offer exceptional satisfaction and are designed to be perfectly paired with a bowl of rice. Nori (seaweed), ajitama (marinated egg), and spinach also soak up the rich broth, enhancing their flavor and heartiness. The table condiments are extensive, including black pepper, sesame, grated garlic, ginger, tobanjan (chili bean paste), and even cucumber pickles, which are rarely offered for free anymore. The true pleasure of Iekei is to dress up a bowl of rice with these pickles, sesame, grated garlic, and tobanjan, then wrap it in nori (seaweed) soaked in the rich soup, and bring it to your mouth. It is a valuable establishment where you can casually enjoy high-quality Iekei ramen in a convenient location near Akihabara Station.
How to Order
1Before entering
4-minute walk from JR Akihabara Station Electric Town Exit, 5-minute walk from Tsukuba Express Akihabara Station A3 Exit, 6-minute walk from Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line Akihabara Station Exit 3. Open daily from 11:00 to 22:00 with no regular holidays. As one of Akihabara's top Iekei ramen shops, there's always a line, with full seating inside and several people waiting outside during weekday evening peaks. It's relatively easier to enter during the midday period around 3 PM.
2Purchase meal tickets
A ticket vending machine is located next to the entrance inside the shop. It has no pictures and no English, only Japanese. This is a "first-buy" system, so purchase your ticket before joining the end of the line. Popular menu items include Ramen (regular), Special Green Onion Ramen, Special Green Onion Chashu Ramen, and Bushoya Ramen (all toppings). As of May 2025, rice will be charged at 100 yen per bowl (it was previously free with unlimited refills). Noodle firmness, soup richness, and oil quantity follow Iekei style: after being seated, verbally tell the staff your preference, such as "zenbu futsu" (everything regular), "katame" (firm noodles), "koime" (richer soup), or "abura ome" (more oil). Payment is cash only; cards, e-money, and QR code payments are not accepted.
3Seating and Receiving Your Order
There are only 10 counter seats. Water and paper aprons are self-service near the water dispenser on the left side of the entrance. Staff will confirm your preferences for noodle firmness, soup richness, and oil quantity, so verbally tell them what you'd like. Rice is served first, followed by Bushoya Ramen a few minutes later.
4Other
Sakai Seimen's medium-thick noodles are cut slightly short, designed to be easily slurped down. The pork shoulder chashu is satisfyingly hearty, intended to be paired with a bowl of rice. Table condiments include black pepper, sesame seeds, grated garlic, ginger, tobanjan (chili bean paste), and even pickled cucumbers, which fewer shops offer for free nowadays. The true pleasure of Iekei ramen is to dress up your rice with pickles, sesame, grated garlic, and tobanjan, then wrap it with nori soaked in the soup before eating.
