Iekei Ramen Bushoya Gaiden
家系ラーメン 武将家 外伝
Overview
"Iekei Ramen Bushouya Gaiden" is an Iekei (Yokohama-style pork and soy sauce broth) ramen shop located in Kanda-Matsunagacho, a 3-minute walk from the Showa-dori Exit of JR Akihabara Station. As a sister shop to Bushouya Honten (Sotokanda), it's situated across the tracks from the main store and is beloved as a popular Iekei ramen spot in Akihabara, alongside its main branch. The soup is a typical Iekei shoyu tonkotsu (soy sauce pork bone) base, but it is characterized by a lighter, more refreshing and easy-to-drink finish than the main store's, offering a gentle flavor that can be enjoyed to the last drop. The noodles are medium-thick and wavy, and you can specify your preferred firmness (katame/firm, futsuu/regular, yawame/soft), in accordance with Iekei tradition. Toppings include fragrant chashu (roasted pork), generous amounts of spinach, and a luxurious 8 sheets of nori (seaweed), a classic Iekei combination. The quantity of nori, in particular, stands out among Iekei shops in the Akihabara area. The meal is designed to be paired with rice (100 yen), allowing you to savor the "Iekei way of eating" by dipping the nori in the soup and wrapping it around the rice. Adding ginger also offers a refreshing flavor change (ajien). Operating continuously from 11:00 AM to 4:00 AM the next day, it is also valued as a late-night or early-morning shime ramen (ramen for finishing a meal/night out). With only 12 counter seats, it's a compact shop, offering another excellent Iekei option in Akihabara alongside its main branch.
How to Order
1Before entering
Located a 3-minute walk from the Showa-dori Exit of Akihabara Station (JR lines), a 3-minute walk from Exit 2 of Akihabara Station (Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line), and within walking distance from Kanda Station. Open for long hours from 11:00 AM to 4:00 AM the next day, accommodating late-night and early-morning visits. This is a sister shop to Bushoya Main Store, located across the tracks. After 5 PM on Saturdays, it's a calm time with only two previous customers, but during weekday lunch peaks (around 12 PM) and evening golden hours, queues form.
2Purchasing meal tickets
There is a ticket vending machine at the shop entrance, with no photos, no English, and Japanese only. Purchase your meal ticket first, then proceed to your seat. Featured items include Ramen (regular size) for 900 yen, Spinach Ramen (regular size) for 1050 yen, Gaiden Ramen, Special Scallion Char Siu Ramen, and more. Rice is 100 yen (paid). Following Iekei style, specify noodle firmness, flavor richness, and oil quantity verbally to the staff after being seated (カタメ / katame (firm), フツウ / futsu (regular), ヤワメ / yawame (soft); コイメ / koime (rich), フツウ / futsu (regular), ウスメ / usume (light); オオメ / ome (more oil), フツウ / futsu (regular), スクナメ / sukuname (less oil)). Payment is cash only; cards, e-money, and QR code payments are not accepted.
3Seating and receiving
There are only 12 counter seats. Staff will guide you to an empty seat and confirm your Iekei preferences like noodle firmness. Service is fast, taking about 3-5 minutes. If you ordered rice, it will be served first.
4Other
True to the Iekei tradition, a popular way to enjoy it is by dipping the nori (seaweed) in the soup and wrapping it around your rice. The soup is rated as slightly "lighter" and easier to drink than Bushoya Main Store, and adding ginger can create a refreshing flavor change. Standard Iekei condiments such as chili paste, ginger, and grated garlic are available on the counter, allowing you to alter the flavor later in your meal. The ramen comes generously topped with 8 sheets of nori, which pairs exceptionally well with rice.
