Iicho Ramen
いいちょ ラーメン
Overview
Iicho Ramen is a popular spot for Kyoto's back-fat shoyu ramen, consistently beloved by locals in Shimogamo, Kyoto. Its soup, based on pork and chicken bones with a distinctive layer of back fat floating on top, is a quintessential Kyoto-style bowl. The flavor is mellow yet rich and easy to eat, pairing wonderfully with generous amounts of green onions. Their fried rice (yakimeshi) also boasts an excellent reputation, and you can get a 100-yen discount when ordering it as a set. The shop has a unique waiting rule: no queuing in front of the store. Instead, you write your name on a board and wait in the park across the street. A helpful tip is to move closer to the shop when your turn is approaching, as it can sometimes be difficult to hear the call. You can also enjoy customizing your flavor with table condiments like garlic chili miso, red pickled ginger, and vinegar. Currently, they operate only during lunchtime and close once sold out. It's recommended to check their official X (Twitter) account (@iicho0141) in advance for information on temporary closures and business hours.
