Recommended for first visit
The signature "Miso Ramen" (930 yen) and "Spicy Miso Ramen". A large portion of bean sprouts (moyashi oomori) is a free service, chosen by almost everyone.
Notes
The white miso-based soup is a rich type with a strong garlic kick, so those expecting a lighter miso flavor might find their preferences differ.

1Before entering the shop

Located within "Tokyo Ramen Yokocho" in the Yaesu underground mall North 1 area, a 3-minute walk from the Tokyo Station Yaesu underground exit, accessible via the underground mall without going above ground. During peak lunch and dinner hours on weekdays, there may be a queue outside, with a signboard for lining up near the ticket machine. It's relatively easier to enter after 9 PM on weekdays or during Sunday lunchtime. With only 14 counter seats, the turnover is good, and wait times are typically around 10-15 minutes.

2Purchasing meal tickets and ordering

Immediately upon entering, there is a touch-panel ticket machine. It features photos and supports English, offering signature "Miso Ramen" and "Spicy Miso Ramen", as well as Ajitama Miso Ramen (ramen with flavored egg) and white leek topping. Sakigai (buy first): Purchase your meal ticket at the vending machine before joining the end of the line. Payments can be made with cash, various credit cards (VISA/Master), transportation e-money, Rakuten Edy, nanaco, WAON, iD, and QR code payments like PayPay/d払い/au PAY.

3Seating and receiving your order

Hand your meal ticket to the staff and you'll be guided to a counter seat. Upon sitting at the L-shaped counter, staff will immediately ask, "Would you like a large portion of bean sprouts (moyashi oomori) as a complimentary service?" If you wish, respond with "Onegai shimasu" (Yes, please). The large portion of bean sprouts (moyashi oomori) is free, and almost everyone chooses it. Service time is about 10 minutes during busy periods.

4Other information

Condiments such as pepper, ichimi togarashi (seven-spice chili powder), sansho (Japanese pepper), and vinegar are available on the table, allowing for a significant change in flavor direction when added towards the end. There is a side menu item, the boiled pork rice bowl, which many customers combine with their ramen. An official app allows you to collect points, which can be exchanged for free toppings like ajitama (flavored egg).

Miso Mendokoro Tasakaya (Ikebukuro): Navigating the Japanese-Only Ticket Machine and a Review of its Robust Miso Ramen

Miso Mendokoro Tasakaya, a miso ramen specialist located in Nishi-Ikebukuro, is just about a 5-minute walk from Ikebukuro Station's West Exit. This shop is known for its hearty miso ramen: a thick, rich, slightly sweet miso broth, firm thick noodles, melt-in-your-mouth chashu, and a towering pile of crisp bean sprouts (moyashi) – a truly robust and voluminous bowl. The menu features four main series: Miso Ramen, Kara-Miso Ramen (spicy miso), Aemen (a brothless mixed noodle dish), and IWGP Geki-Kara Ramen (extra hot). This guide, based on our visit on Friday, May 22, 2026 (arrived at 6:39 PM with a 13-person queue), provides photos and tips for first-time visitors to Japan. We'll cover how to navigate the Japanese-only, no-photo ticket vending machine using a color guide, understand the queuing situation (only 9 counter seats and long noodle cooking times mean slower turnover), tips to avoid crowds, and the cash-only payment policy.
