Komugi to Ikiru Michi
小麦と生きる道
Overview
"Komugi to Ikiru Michi" is a specialty tori-paitan (chicken paitan) ramen shop located in Minami-Senba, Osaka, a 5-minute walk from Nagahoribashi Station. Its main branch is in Minamimorimachi, and this shop in Minami-Senba is a sister branch. It's a spin-off from an established shop that has offered an innovative soup style, frothed into a foam with an espuma machine, since before the tori-paitan boom. The signature tori-paitan ramen features a fluffy, light-textured, creamy foamed soup made with an espuma machine. While it appears light at first glance, a robust umami and depth emerge as you eat, creating a bowl where both the rich soup and the substantial noodles shine. True to the shop's name ("The Way to Live with Wheat"), the noodles are chewy, medium-thick, homemade, and provide a strong "wheat sensation," with their flavor expanding with every bite. Toppings are diverse and visually vibrant, including three types of meat (such as rare chashu), menma (marinated bamboo shoots), red onion, and leafy greens. A weekday-limited tori-tonkotsu (chicken and pork bone) ramen (950 yen) is also available, offering a double soup of chicken and pork. Although the interior is compact with 12 seats (6 counter seats + 6 table seats), an English menu is available, catering to international travelers.
How to Order
1Before entering
5-minute walk (336m) from Nagahoribashi Station on the Osaka Metro Nagahori Tsurumi-ryokuchi Line and Sakaisuji Line. Open in two shifts: 11:00-15:00 and 17:30-21:00 (L.O. 20:45), no regular holidays. On weekdays, it's often possible to enter without a wait right after dinner opening, but expect a queue during lunch peak (12:00-13:30).
2Purchase meal ticket / Order
A ticket machine is installed inside the shop, and an English menu is also available. Popular items include the signature Chicken Paitan Ramen, the weekday-limited Chicken Tonkotsu Ramen (950 yen), and Tsukemen. Payment is cash only; QR payment, e-money, and cards are not accepted. If there's no line, enter and use the ticket machine immediately; if crowded, join the end of the queue and follow instructions.
3Seating and receiving
Total of 12 seats: 6 counter seats, 6 table seats. Staff will guide you to an empty seat; hand over your meal ticket. Service involves careful presentation, so expect a 5-10 minute wait for your ramen during busy periods.
4Other
The signature Chicken Paitan features a creamy, foamy soup made with Espuma, combined with chewy homemade medium-thick noodles. It's a visually appealing dish with rare chashu, menma, onion, and leafy greens. While it might feel a bit rich towards the end, the balance between soup and noodles is well-maintained. The main shop is in Minamimorimachi, and this is a sister branch in Minamisenba.
