Kyoto Menya Takei Hankyu Umeda
京都 麺屋たけ井 阪急梅田店
Overview
This is a branch of Kyoto's renowned tsukemen shop, Menya Takei, located on the 2nd floor inside Hankyu Umeda Station. Boasting excellent accessibility right next to the Kobe Line stairs within the central ticket gate on the 2nd floor of Hankyu Umeda Station, you can enjoy the same rich seafood tonkotsu tsukemen as the main branch without leaving the station. The signature dish is the rich seafood tonkotsu tsukemen, characterized by a combination of glossy, thick, straight noodles made with whole wheat flour and a viscous dipping soup where the powerful richness of pork bones is layered with the umami of seafood like katsuobushi. A subtle hint of yuzu peel adds a refreshing lightness to the aftertaste. Noodles come in Regular (400g), Small (310g), and Large, all at the same price. The toppings include chashu, roasted chicken thigh, chashu with pink pepper, menma, and nori seaweed; choosing the special version (tokusei) adds a seasoned egg (ajitama) for a luxurious presentation. The side dish, Butakara Don (spicy pork bowl), is a perfect pairing with tsukemen, featuring sweet and spicy minced pork, an egg yolk, and chopped green onions. The shop is praised for its attentive service, allowing customers to request reheating of the soup or a katsuobushi-based soup wari (スープ割り - soup diluted with dashi), ensuring enjoyment to the last drop. With only 20 U-shaped counter seats, the turnover is excellent despite being inside the station, so even if there's a queue, it moves smoothly.
How to Order
1Before entering
Located on the 2nd floor inside the central ticket gate of Hankyu Umeda Station, next to the Kobe Line stairs, you must purchase an admission ticket (170 yen) or tap your IC card to enter. If you exit within 20 minutes of entering the ticket gate area, the admission fee is waived, so be mindful of your exit time if you're in a hurry. Operating hours are 11:00 to 22:30 without closing, and there are no regular holidays. While queues are common inside the station, turnover is quick, and entry is often possible within 5 to 15 minutes.
2Purchasing meal tickets and ordering
A ticket vending machine (with food photos, no English) is located at the entrance. The timing for purchasing meal tickets follows staff instructions; you purchase them when a staff member calls out to you, either while queuing or upon entry. Signature items include tsukemen (around 900 yen), Special Tsukemen (1,420 yen), Ajitama Tsukemen (tsukemen with seasoned egg), Special Ramen, and Butakara Don (spicy pork bowl). Noodles are available in Regular (400g), Small (310g), and Large, all at the same price. Payment is cash only; cards, e-money, and QR code payments are not accepted.
3Seating and receiving your order
The interior features only 20 U-shaped counter seats, similar to a gyudon chain, with seating on both sides of the aisle. Your order will be served approximately 5 to 10 minutes after handing over your meal ticket. There are also bag storage spaces near the windows.
4Other
The shop offers attentive service, allowing customers to request soup reheating or a katsuobushi-based soup wari (スープ割り - soup diluted with dashi). For soup wari, you can specify your preference, such as "3 parts dipping soup to 1 part dashi." The noodles are pre-seasoned with black pepper, so it's recommended to taste them as-is first. For the side Butakara Don (spicy pork bowl), break the egg yolk and mix it in. Tissues are located under the counter, so use them if you break a sweat.
