Mabomen Senmonten Majin Shinsaibashi
麻婆麺専門店 麻仁 心斎橋店
Overview
A specialty shop for Mapo Tofu Noodles (Mabo-men) located in the bustling Shinsaibashi district. With an eye-catching red-themed exterior, it operates from 6 PM until 6 AM the next morning, making it a popular choice for a late-night meal after drinks in Minami or a midnight snack. Their signature Mapo Tofu Noodles come in three styles: the mildest Chicken Stock Mapo Tofu Noodles (Torigara Mabo-men), the Medicinal Herb Mapo Tofu Noodles (Yakuzen Mabo-men) with its herbal aroma, and the numbing and spicy Mala Mapo Tofu Noodles (Mala Mabo-men). For those seeking an even higher level of spice, the "Hell Mapo Tofu Noodles" (Jigoku Mabo-men) is a challenge-grade dish with an abundance of chili peppers and chili powder floating on top, perfect for spice connoisseurs. The soup is a thick, starchy sauce that characteristically clings well to the chewy, thick noodles. The numbing sensation and sweetness of Sichuan pepper (sansho) and the depth of medicinal herbs create layers of flavor, which can be further adjusted with chili oil (rayu) and Sichuan pepper oil (huajiao oil) available at the table. Toppings such as cilantro, cheese, egg yolk, and char siu are available, and a popular way for regulars to finish is by adding rice (small 200 yen / medium 250 yen / large 300 yen) towards the end to enjoy it as a Mapo Tofu Rice Bowl. Side dishes like steamed chicken, "drooling chicken" (yodare-dori), xiao long bao, and gyoza are also highly praised, and a selection of international drinks, including Taiwanese beer, is available.

1Before entering
Look for the red exterior in the entertainment district of Higashi-Shinsaibashi, a 7-minute walk from Shinsaibashi Station. Open from 18:00 to 06:00 the next morning (L.O. 05:30), closed on Sundays. It's relatively easy to enter before 20:00, and it tends to get crowded from 22:00 until late at night. Around 23:00, there may be a wait of about 10 minutes outside the shop.
2Ordering
Upon entering, staff will guide you to an empty seat. Orders are placed by scanning the QR code on the table with your smartphone for self-ordering. The menu includes 3 types of Mapo Noodles (Chicken Broth / Herbal / Mala), the ultimate Jigoku Mapo Noodles, and sides such as Mapo Tofu, Steamed Chicken, Xiao Long Bao, Gyoza, and Rice (Small 200 / Medium 250 / Large 300). Spice level is indicated by the number of chili pepper marks; if you prefer less spice, you can select "Mild," and if you dislike sansho (Japanese pepper), you can select "Sansho-free" when ordering. Toppings (Cilantro, Cheese, Egg Yolk) can be added on the order screen. Payment methods are widely accepted: Cash, Credit Card (VISA/Master/JCB/AMEX/Diners), Transportation IC cards, iD, QUICPay, PayPay, d-Barai, and au PAY.
3Seating and Receiving
Total 15 seats: 7 counter seats and 2 tables for 4 people. Counter space per person is slightly narrow. Serving time is approximately 6-7 minutes.
4Others
Rāyu (chili oil) and flower pepper oil are available on the table, allowing you to add more numbness or spiciness. If a lot of sauce remains, it's a classic way to order rice afterward and make it into a Mapo Don (Mapo rice bowl). Adding cheese topping or egg yolk mellows the spiciness, making it easier to eat even for those who don't like very spicy food.
