Marusho Ramen
マルショーラーメン
Overview
"Marusho Ramen," conveniently located on the 8th floor of Yodobashi Camera Multimedia Akiba, just a 1-minute walk from JR Akihabara Station. This brand, inspired by the "chan-kei" style of ramen, was opened in September 2023 by the popular Kawasaki-based "Tama" group. Their signature is a translucent pork chintan (butachintan: clear pork broth) soup that, while slightly salty, boasts a rich umami from the dashi. The piping hot soup is generously poured, offering a well-balanced sweetness and saltiness, along with the deep umami of pork bone. The noodles are medium-thin, straight, and low-hydration (tei-kasui: low-hydration noodles), a firm homemade noodle hidden beneath a generous serving of crispy seasoned julienned white green onions (shiraga-negi). Plenty of thinly sliced pork shoulder loin chashu (kata-rosu chashu) with just the right amount of fat is served, pairing excellently with the flat, thin, straight noodles. All ramen comes standard with complimentary rice, making the "chan-kei" style of eating chashu on white rice a classic. The tables are adorned with a wide array of seasonings, including Toujan (a spicy bean paste), minced garlic, pepper, vinegar, chili oil, fresh garlic, spicy paste, and gyoza sauce. Adding Toujan later in your meal allows for an instant, excitingly 'junk food'-like flavor change (ajien). With a spacious interior seating 32, it's a popular choice for those returning from shopping at Yodobashi or looking for a reliable ramen option during business trips.
How to Order
1Before entering
Located a 1-minute walk from each JR Akihabara station line, on the 8th floor of Yodobashi Camera Multimedia Akiba. Open from 11:00 to 23:00 (L.O. 22:30), with no fixed holidays, adhering to the facility's schedule. Around noon on weekdays, it is often full, and there may be a wait outside, but since it's inside Yodobashi, you can queue comfortably regardless of the weather. It's relatively easier to enter on weekends or after 9 PM.
2Purchasing meal tickets
A pre-purchase system using a meal ticket machine inside the store. Photo indications are limited, so operations are mainly based on menu names. Signature items include Ramen (970 yen), Special Ramen, Tsukechuka, Spicy Negi Ramen, etc. Ramen comes standard with free rice, and on weekday evenings, there are times when medium (chumori), large (oomori), or half rice are free. Payments are cash only; credit cards, e-money, and QR code payments are not accepted.
3Seating and receiving
The store has a relatively spacious layout with 32 seats (mainly counter seats). Staff will guide you to an empty seat. Serving time is about 5-7 minutes, and turnover is quick.
4Other
This brand is managed by the popular Kawasaki "Tama" group and features a semi-transparent pork chintan soup, inspired by the "chan-kei" style. A common way to enjoy it is to combine the slightly salty soup with free rice, along with thinly sliced pork shoulder chashu and shredded green onions. The table is lined with a variety of condiments such as Tojan (spicy bean paste), chopped garlic, pepper, vinegar, chili oil, fresh garlic, spicy paste, and gyoza sauce. Adding Tojan in the latter half allows for a dramatic change in flavor.
