1Before entering the store

This famous restaurant, a regular on Tabelog's Osaka Hyakumeiten (Top 100 Restaurants), is located in the Takatsu area, a 9-12 minute walk from Nippombashi Station or a 9-11 minute walk from Tanimachi 9-chome Station. Although it's within walking distance of the nearest station, it's a bit far, so you need to plan your access whether by car, bicycle, or on foot. They are open year-round with a two-part system: 11:30-14:40 (L.O. 14:20) for lunch and 18:00-21:00 for dinner. Around the opening time of 11:30, there are often lines of 10 or more people, waiting outside on the two benches in front of the shop. It's best to arrive a bit early and wait in front of the shop for peace of mind.

2Purchasing meal tickets / Ordering

It's a pre-purchase system where you buy meal tickets from the vending machine in front of the store before entering. The vending machine has photos and English descriptions, making it easy to operate. The three main signature dishes are "Toribushi Kiwami Shio Ramen" (Chicken Dashi Salt Ramen) (1000 yen), "Toridoro Tsukemen" (Rich Chicken Dipping Noodles, served bubbling hot in a stone pot), and "Homard Ebi no Tantan Mazesoba" (Limited Edition, Lobster Dandan Mixed Noodles). The signature Toribushi Kiwami Shio Ramen is the reason for its selection to the Hyakumeiten, making it a classic choice for first-time visitors. Payment is cash only; cards, e-money, and QR payment are not accepted.

3Seating and Receiving

There are a total of 8 seats: 4 at the counter and 1 table (4 seats). The staff will guide you to your seat, so sit down and hand them your meal ticket. Your order will be served in about 5-10 minutes, and the lively atmosphere of the kitchen, where you can see the cooking in action, is another charm of this restaurant.

4Other

The signature Toribushi Kiwami Shio Ramen has a unique composition: a clear salt broth made from whole Ise Akadori chicken and chicken bones, with burdock root, apple, and ginger to suppress any odor, topped with toribushi (shaved chicken flakes processed like katsuobushi). The aroma of yuzu and the slight bitterness of kaiware daikon (radish sprouts) refresh the palate, allowing you to enjoy and finish the entire bowl without getting tired of the taste. The Toridoro Tsukemen is served piping hot in a stone pot, and the temperature difference with the cold-rinsed medium-thin noodles enhances their elasticity.

Miso Mendokoro Tasakaya (Ikebukuro): Navigating the Japanese-Only Ticket Machine and a Review of its Robust Miso Ramen

Miso Mendokoro Tasakaya, a miso ramen specialist located in Nishi-Ikebukuro, is just about a 5-minute walk from Ikebukuro Station's West Exit. This shop is known for its hearty miso ramen: a thick, rich, slightly sweet miso broth, firm thick noodles, melt-in-your-mouth chashu, and a towering pile of crisp bean sprouts (moyashi) – a truly robust and voluminous bowl. The menu features four main series: Miso Ramen, Kara-Miso Ramen (spicy miso), Aemen (a brothless mixed noodle dish), and IWGP Geki-Kara Ramen (extra hot). This guide, based on our visit on Friday, May 22, 2026 (arrived at 6:39 PM with a 13-person queue), provides photos and tips for first-time visitors to Japan. We'll cover how to navigate the Japanese-only, no-photo ticket vending machine using a color guide, understand the queuing situation (only 9 counter seats and long noodle cooking times mean slower turnover), tips to avoid crowds, and the cash-only payment policy.
