1Before entering

This miso ramen specialty shop is a TabeLog Hyakumeiten (Top 100 Shops) located on the 1st floor of Higashi-Ikebukuro ISK Building, a 6-minute walk from Ikebukuro Station East Exit. It operates continuously from 11:00 to 22:30, with holidays only during the New Year period. During peak times, queues of 10+ people are common, and waiting 20 minutes to 1 hour is not unusual, especially during lunch and dinner. Around 3 PM or after 9 PM are generally less crowded times.

2Purchasing meal tickets and ordering

This shop uses a pre-payment system with a ticket vending machine located to the left of the entrance. If there is no queue, buy a ticket at the machine, then proceed to the counter. If there's a queue outside, first enter the shop, buy your ticket at the machine, then join the end of the line (if there's a line inside, staff may collect tickets midway). The vending machine has clear photos but no English. However, menu names (Miso, Spicy Miso, Spicy Miso Tsukemen, Ajitama, Chashu Men) are simple. Signature dishes are Miso Ramen for 1100 yen, Ajitama Miso Chashu Men for 1300 yen, and a large portion (omori) is +160 yen. When handing your ticket to the staff, you will be asked if you want free extra vegetables (yasai omori) or extra garlic (ninniku). State your preference, such as “both” or “vegetables only”. During weekday lunch (11 AM - 3 PM), rice is a free service. Payment is cash only; cards, e-money, and QR payments are not accepted.

3Seating and receiving

There are only 16 counter seats, and watching the chefs stir-fry vegetables in a wok right in front of you creates an engaging atmosphere. Serving time is usually around 10 minutes. After your ramen arrives, it's recommended to first taste the soup to appreciate the rich blend of white and red miso with the sweet flavor of vegetable potage, then slurp the noodles.

4Other

Condiments like ichimi togarashi (red chili pepper) and pepper are available on the table; adding them gradually from the middle of your meal is a classic way to change the flavor. The noodles are medium-thick, wavy noodles (160g) from Mikawaya Seimen, which perfectly entwine with the soup. Towards the end, if you add half a portion of rice to the remaining soup, it becomes like an ochazuke, allowing you to fully enjoy the rich soup with the rice. After finishing, lift your bowl and quietly leave your seat.
