Mendokoro Mazeru
麺処 マゼル
Overview
This is a Jiro-style mazesoba specialty shop located just a 1-minute walk from Akihabara Station. You can choose from two types: soy sauce or salt. When you hand over your meal ticket, you can verbally request toppings such as vegetables (yasai), pork fat (abura), garlic (ninniku), cheese, and adjust the flavor intensity. Its features include thick, chewy noodles, a rich kaeshi-based sauce, and free cheese topping. Since the entrance is located in a building that's hard to find, a tip is to look for the parking lot as a landmark. Cash only. Closed on Sundays and public holidays.
How to Order
1Before Entering (if there's a line)
This is a Jiro-style mazesoba specialty shop located a 1-minute walk from Akihabara Station, but the entrance can be hard to find, so it's best to look for it using the parking lot as a landmark. It's a small shop with only 7 counter seats, but the turnover is quick. Please note that it's closed on Sundays and national holidays.
2Purchasing a Meal Ticket / Ordering
You purchase a meal ticket from a vending machine inside the store. If there's a line, the operation varies by shop, so it's safest to observe the line and decide whether to join the end of the line or buy your ticket first. The vending machine does not have English indications. Payment is cash only (cards, e-money, and QR payments are not accepted). When handing your meal ticket to the staff, you need to tell them your topping preferences, known as 'calls' (verbal orders). The call items are 5 categories: yasai (vegetables - amount of bean sprouts and cabbage), abura (back fat - amount of fat), ninniku (garlic), cheese, and seasoning strength. For each, you verbally state 'mashi' (more), 'mashi-mashi' (double), 'sukuname' (less), 'nashi' (none), or 'futsu' (regular). If it's your first time, saying 'futsu de' (regular for everything) for all items is fine.
3Seating and Receiving
There are only 7 counter seats. After handing over your meal ticket and giving your calls, wait at your seat and receive your order when it's served.
4Other Information
Cheese topping is free, which is a rare hospitality for a Jiro-style shop. You can choose from two types: soy sauce and salt. You can change the flavor with the coarsely ground black pepper on the table.
