Menya Hyottoko Kotsukaikan
麺屋ひょっとこ 交通会館店
Overview
Located in the B1F of Tokyo Kotsu Kaikan in Yurakucho, this popular restaurant is a regular on Tabelog's Top 100 ramen list, specializing in Japanese-style ramen. It's a small shop with only 7 counter seats, and there's always a line at lunchtime. The signature dish is 'Japanese-style Yuzu Ramen'. The clear, refined Japanese dashi broth, made from dried ingredients like iriko (dried sardines) and kombu (kelp), is free of impurities and boasts a refreshing aroma of grated yuzu peel. It's elegant like a clear soup (Osuimono) and offers a gentle flavor that permeates the entire body. The thin, straight noodles are cooked firm and are easy to slurp. Topped with thick char siu (sliced pork) cut into strips, a soft-boiled egg, mitsuba (Japanese parsley), menma (bamboo shoots), and green onions, the overall balance is excellent. Starting from 780 yen, it offers exceptional cost-performance in the city center. Toppings like rock seaweed and wakame (seaweed), as well as extra char siu, are also popular. It's ideal for a post-drinking meal or for those seeking a gentle and comforting bowl.

1Before Entering
Located a 3-minute walk from Yurakucho Station (Kyobashi Exit), on B1F of Tokyo Kotsu Kaikan. Due to only 7 counter seats, there is often a line of 10-15 people during lunchtime, sometimes waiting 20-35 minutes. Turnover is relatively quick. Open Monday-Friday 11:00-20:00, Saturday 11:00-19:00. Closed Sundays and national holidays.
2Buying Meal Tickets and Ordering
The ticket vending machine is near the front of the line; purchase your ticket before lining up. If it's not too crowded, it's smoother to buy your ticket when your turn is approaching. Payment is cash only; credit cards, e-money, and QR code payments are not accepted. Cold water is self-service.
3Seating and Receiving
There are only 7 L-shaped counter seats. Seating is one person at a time as a spot becomes free, with a style of quiet communal dining. Luggage space is limited, and seats are close together. Your order will be served approximately 5 minutes after seating.
4Other Notes
The signature dish is the 'Japanese-style Yuzu Ramen' with its yuzu aroma. The yuzu used here has a bitterness from the peel that enhances the sweetness of the soup. Towards the end, you can change the flavor with pepper or vinegar. Toppings like rock seaweed and wakame, as well as the 'Yakibuta-men' (ramen with extra thick char siu), are also popular.

大事なのは、とにかく有楽町のランチといえば交通会館は外せないし、中でも交通飯店とひょっとこは特に素晴らしいということ。
