Menya Kanetora Hakata DEITOS
麺や兼虎 博多デイトス店
Overview
Menya Kanetora, a tsukemen (dipping noodles) specialty shop with multiple locations in Fukuoka and Saga, is situated within "Hakata Men Kaido" on the 2nd floor of Hakata Deitos. As the only tsukemen shop in Hakata Men Kaido, it's a popular spot that always draws long lines, and its excellent direct access to Hakata Station means there are days when people start queuing even before its 9:30 AM opening. Its signature dish is the rich tsukemen (nokou tsukemen), characterized by a potent and thick, rich soup made from pork bone (tonkotsu), chicken bone (torigara), seafood (gyokai), and vegetables, simmered for a long time. The medium-thick straight noodles from Mikawaya Seimen have a smooth and chewy texture, perfectly clinging to the rich soup. Toppings are plentiful, including rare chashu, a soft-boiled seasoned egg (hanjuku ajitama), nori (seaweed), yuzu (citrus), green onions, and menma (bamboo shoots), with diced melt-in-your-mouth chashu also found within the dipping broth. The "Karakara Tsukemen" (spicy tsukemen) offers selectable spice levels, including options for extreme spiciness. To finish the meal, you can dilute the dipping broth with bonito dashi (katsuo dashi) or dried sardine vinegar (niboshi su) available on the table and drink it up, allowing you to savor authentic rich tsukemen reminiscent of the Tokyo Rokurinsha style, directly connected to Hakata Station. The stylish U-shaped counter seating for 18, along with bright and lively customer service and the sale of fresh tsukemen for souvenirs, are also distinctive features.

1Before entering
Located within "Hakata Men-kaido" on the 2nd floor of Hakata Deitos, directly connected to Hakata Station. Open from 9:30 AM to 10:00 PM (must join the queue by 10:00 PM), no holidays. This popular restaurant always has long queues; during peak hours (12-2 PM and 6-8 PM), waits can be 30-50 minutes, and queues can form even before opening at 9:30 AM. It's relatively less crowded on weekdays around 2-4 PM, but still expect a 10-15 minute wait.
2Purchasing meal tickets
There is a ticket vending machine in the Men-kaido aisle. Purchase your meal ticket first, then join the back of the queue. The touch panel machine supports photos and English, making it easy for international travelers to use. Signature dishes include Rich Tsukemen, Rich Tsukemen with Flavored Egg, Premium Rich Tsukemen, Spicy Tsukemen, and seasonal spicy tsukemen. Noodle portion sizes from small to medium can be selected for the same price. There are also many toppings and side dishes like "Garlic TKG" and "Pork Rice". All payment methods are accepted: cash, credit cards, e-money, and QR code payments.
3Seating and receiving
Staff will guide you to one of the 18 stylish U-shaped counter seats. Serving takes about 10 minutes. After seating, you can ask for your noodles to be served warm (atsumori (warm noodles)); first-time visitors who tell the staff "Atsumori de" can enjoy their dipping sauce without it getting cold until the end.
4Other
The table is stocked with various free flavor-changing items such as "Forbidden Garlic," "Chili Powder," "Dried Sardine Vinegar," and "Fish Powder." Adding garlic midway adds a punch, and a classic way to finish is by adding bonito dashi or dried sardine vinegar to dilute the dipping sauce and drink it. There's also a section selling souvenir raw tsukemen, popular among repeat customers.
