Menya Noroshi
麺屋のろし
Overview
Menya Noroshi is a Hakodate Miso Ramen specialty shop with its main branch in Hakodate, conveniently located an 8-minute walk from JR Akihabara Station and a 5-minute walk from Asakusabashi Station. Situated next to the immensely popular "Kyo Kuroki," Menya Noroshi stands as one of Akihabara's renowned establishments, truly worth visiting for its exquisite Hakodate Miso flavor. The soup, distinct from the Sapporo Miso Ramen's "Junren-kei" (Junren-style) tradition, features Hakodate's unique sweet miso with a prominent ginger flavor. It's surprisingly light and easy to consume, despite its appearance. The noodles are firm, yellow, and wavy, typical of Sapporo-style ramen. Toppings follow the classic Hakodate Miso configuration: butter, corn, bean sprouts, green onions, thinly sliced chashu (braised pork), and menma (fermented bamboo shoots). A popular way to enjoy this ramen involves two stages: first, let the dollop of butter on top melt into the soup, which gradually transforms the flavor. Then, for an additional delicious change, dissolve some grated garlic from the table into the broth for an extra punch. Signature items include Hakodate Miso Ramen, Special Hakodate Miso Ramen Kiwami (Extreme, with butter, corn, and all toppings) starting from 1240 yen, Shio Ramen (Salt Ramen) for 750 yen, Miso Butter Corn Ramen for 1150 yen, Shio Chashu Men (Salt Chashu Ramen), and the Hakodate A Set (Miso Ramen + Chashu Don (braised pork rice bowl)) for 1150 yen, among others. The 600 yen side half chahan (fried rice) is also a popular accompanying dish, perfectly moist yet fluffy. A pleasant service includes a chilled oshibori (wet towel) provided upon seating, and advance reservations can be made through Tabelog.

4Other
The soup is a unique Hakodate sweet miso with ginger, a bit different from Sapporo Miso Ramen's "Junren style," and is easy to eat without being as oily as it looks. The noodles are the firm, yellow, curly noodles often seen in Sapporo. A classic way to enjoy it is to melt the butter initially on top into the soup, gradually changing the flavor profile in two stages. Dissolving the grated garlic available on the table adds a punch and makes for an even better flavor change. The fried rice is also highly praised, and ordering it as a set is popular.
