Menya Oyayubi
麺屋 おやゆび
Overview
Menya Oyayubi is a hidden gem ramen shop run solely by a female owner, tucked away in a building slightly off the main street of Shiba Nichome Shotengai. It opened independently, taking over the previous establishment "Kumo no Kirema" (a dual-concept shop offering ramen and shaved ice). Thanks to its location behind the nearby NEC headquarters, it's quietly supported by office workers and tourists in the Mita and Shiba Koen areas. Its most distinguishing feature is its unique direction, centered on the concept of "Muscle Wontons." The signature dishes are "Shio Sansho Wonton Ramen" and "Shoyu Sansho Wonton Ramen" (each 1,100 yen), sophisticated bowls featuring a clear, light chicken and seafood broth infused with the numbing and refreshing sensation of sansho pepper. The transparent soup boasts an aromatic sansho fragrance; the first bite delivers a powerful sansho kick, while the latter half gradually reveals the umami of the dashi. The noodles are homemade, medium-thin straight (high hydration) noodles inheriting the "Junmugi" lineage, offering an elegant finish that pairs well with the light broth. The signature "Muscle Wontons" include one pork-centered meat wonton and one shrimp-centered shrimp wonton. Encased in thin, slippery, smooth skins are springy meat and large, fresh shrimp, boasting a quality comparable to specialty wonton shops. Other toppings include three slices of slow-cooked chashu (leaner cut), half a seasoned egg, shredded nori seaweed, kaiware sprouts, and shredded white leek. You can also finish your meal with an "Aedama" (extra seasoned noodles) for 250 yen.
How to Order
1Before Entering
Approximately 6-7 minutes walk from "Mita" Station on the Toei Mita Line and Asakusa Line, 6-7 minutes walk from "Shiba Koen" Station on the subway, and 7-8 minutes walk from "Tamachi" Station on the JR Line. The business hours are complex: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 11:00-15:00 (lunch) and 18:00-21:00 (dinner); Wednesday, Saturday, and public holidays from 11:00-15:00 (lunch only); closed on Sundays. Due to the single-person operation and limited seating, a notice is displayed at the entrance stating that service may take longer during busy periods. It's relatively easy to enter during weekday lunch, but for first-time visitors, public holiday lunches or after 1 PM might be calmer.
2Purchasing Meal Tickets & Ordering
Purchase meal tickets at the ticket machine at the entrance (for old bills). If using new 1,000 yen bills, use the self-checkout next to it (accepts new bills + PayPay). Payments are accepted in cash and QR payment (PayPay); credit cards and electronic money are not accepted. The signature dishes are Shio Sansho Wonton Ramen and Shoyu Sansho Wonton Ramen (each 1,100 yen). Toppings include Ajitama (seasoned egg) (150 yen), Aedama (extra seasoned noodles) (250 yen), and Negi-mashi (more green onion) (50 yen), etc. Some first-time visitors may find the ticket machine operation a bit confusing as it's a new shop, but if you're unsure, feel free to ask the owner.
3Seating & Receiving Your Order
There are a total of 11 seats: 7 counter seats and 2 tables for two (4 seats). As it's run solely by a female owner, service may take longer during busy periods. After being seated and handing over your meal ticket, your ramen will be served in about 10 minutes. A beautifully arranged bowl with chashu, ajitama, and wontons, along with condiments (shredded white leek, kaiware sprouts), will be presented.
4Other Notes
Aedama (extra seasoned noodles) (250 yen) may sometimes be served only with green onion and sauce, differing from the shop's photo which shows diced pork and fish powder. You are free to eat it dipped in the soup or enjoy it on its own. It's recommended to fully savor the sansho pepper at the beginning, then continue eating with the noodles. For the latter half, enjoy a change of flavor with Aedama (extra seasoned noodles) or rice (ordered separately).
