Menya Saisai Showacho
麺屋彩々 昭和町本店
Overview
Menya Saisai Showacho Honten is a popular ramen shop in Showacho, Osaka, frequently listed among Tabelog's Top 100 ramen shops. It's also known for opening at 8 AM, offering "asa-ra" (morning ramen), attracting a wide range of customers from locals to tourists. Its signature dish is the "Seicho Shio Ramen" (Clear Salt Ramen), characterized by a clear soup so transparent you can see the bottom of the bowl. The soup, made primarily from chicken bones with no impurities, is finished with chicken oil, adding richness and aroma, resulting in a light yet flavorful bowl. The firm, medium-thin straight noodles absorb the soup well. Toppings uniquely include rare chashu, a seasoned egg, and chrysanthemum greens (shungiku), whose slight bitterness provides a good accent to the salt soup. Beyond the signature Seicho Shio, the menu boasts a wide variety, including Hakkei Shoyu (White Chicken Soy Sauce), Toripaitan (Creamy Chicken), Miso, Tsukemen (Dipping Noodles), the extremely spicy "Cho Onigoroshi" (Super Demon Killer), seasonal cold ramen, and limited-edition noodles. The excellent cost performance, with most bowls around 1,000 yen, is also a draw. Sets with side dishes like soboro gohan (minced chicken rice) that pair well with ramen are also available.
How to Order

1Before entering
The shop is located very close to Exit 2 of Showacho Station on the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line, but it's on a slightly recessed alley and can be hard to find for first-timers, so look for the sign. It's a small shop with only 9 counter seats, known for serving "asa-ra" (morning ramen) from 8 AM. Be aware that it may close early if sold out, so be careful if visiting late. It's closed on Thursdays and operates in two shifts, lunch and dinner.
2Buying a ticket / ordering
The system requires purchasing a meal ticket first at the touch-panel vending machine at the entrance before proceeding to the counter. The machine supports photos and English displays. In addition to the signature Seicho Shio Ramen, there's a wide variety including Hakkei Shoyu, Toripaitan, Miso, and Tsukemen. Sets with ramen and soboro gohan are also available. Payments are accepted via cash, credit card, e-money, and QR payment.
3Seating / receiving
Hand your meal ticket to the staff and wait at a counter seat. The kitchen is clearly visible, and meals are typically served within 5 minutes. The staff are polite, making it easy for solo diners.
4Other tips
You can adjust the flavor with condiments on the table, but it's recommended to first savor the combination of the clear soup and chrysanthemum greens as is. During "asa-ra" hours, lighter menu items are popular and convenient for breakfast during sightseeing or business trips. If you like spicy food, "Cho Onigoroshi" is available, but be warned that it is extremely spicy.
