Menya Sakamoto
麺屋 坂本
Overview
Located right by Kuramaguchi Subway Station in Kyoto, this shop specializes in clear chicken broth ramen. Their signature Tori Chuka Soba boasts a soup meticulously crafted over two days, combining several types of premium chicken with bonito flakes, sesame mackerel flakes, dried sardines, and Rausu kelp. While the soy sauce delivers a sharp flavor, the umami of chicken and seafood dashi layers beautifully, creating an elegant taste that makes you want to drink every last drop. The noodles, a special blend from Asakusa Kaikaro, are a rarity in Kyoto, offering a flexible chewiness and smooth texture that perfectly complements the soup. Toppings include long, braised bamboo shoots (hosaki menma), tender chicken chashu, and steamed chicken, showcasing the careful preparation in each bowl. Other attractions include seasonal and varied menu items such as Tori Shio Soba (chicken salt ramen), summer cold ramen, Shijimi Soba (clam ramen), and tsukemen made with thin noodles. On the table, you'll find Kyoto's traditional Hararyokaku black shichimi, which adds richness when sprinkled on the chashu halfway through your meal. Popular side dishes like aburi chashu-don (broiled pork rice bowl) and dashi chazuke (rice with dashi broth) can also be enjoyed with your noodles.

1Before Entering
Located on the first floor of a building along Karasuma-dori, right outside Exit 1 of Kuramaguchi Station on the Karasuma Subway Line. There are few restaurants in the area, making it a convenient stop near the station. It's a small shop, and while there might be a few groups waiting during lunch, the turnover is relatively quick.
2Purchasing Meal Tickets & Ordering
Upon opening the sliding door at the entrance, you'll find a ticket machine. Since there are no photos of the dishes and only Japanese text, it's helpful to know the main menu items like Tori Chuka Soba, Tori Shio Soba, and Tsukemen. Seasonal items like cold ramen may be sold out, which can be checked on the machine's display. Payment is cash only; credit cards, e-money, and QR code payments are not accepted.
3Seating & Receiving Your Order
After purchasing your meal ticket from the machine, proceed to a counter seat and hand over your ticket. Your order will be ready in a few minutes, expertly prepared by the chef, one bowl at a time.
4Other Notes
The soup is served in its complete state, so it's recommended to savor it as is first. The Hararyokaku black shichimi from Kyoto, available on the table, will enhance the flavor when sprinkled on the chashu or noodles halfway through. Please note that tsukemen does not come with soup wari. If you wish to add rice to finish your meal, please inform the staff.
