The signature seafood-tonkotsu ramen or tsukemen. Choose standard or yuzu noodles, with motsu, char siu, or beef toppings; enjoying shime-gohan is a classic way to finish.
Notes
Cash not accepted (credit, e-money, QR payment only). One-way flow with separate entrance and exit. No signboard, so Google Maps location confirmation beforehand is recommended.

1Before Entering

Located in the Goshominami residential area, a 6-minute walk from Karasuma Oike Station or Marutamachi Station on the subway. Open Tue-Sun 11:30-15:00 / 18:00-21:00 (Last order on holidays 14:50 / 20:50). Closed only during New Year's holidays. There is no signboard, only "Takakura Nijo" engraved on the door handle, so it's recommended to confirm the location on Google Maps. It's a small shop with only 6 counter seats, and there might be a queue on weekend afternoons and weekday evenings around 7 PM.

2Purchasing Tickets / Ordering

Upon opening the door and entering, there's a touch panel terminal at the entrance where you complete menu selection, name entry, and payment – a unique system. Menu options include 3 types: Ramen, Tsukemen, and Curry Tsukemen. Noodles can be standard (straight) or yuzu-infused. Toppings can be selected from motsu (pork or beef offal), char siu, or beef. Omori (large size) is the same price. Additional toppings include ajitama (seasoned egg), extra green onions, and shime-gohan (rice to finish the meal). Prices are displayed excluding tax, so note that the total price will switch to including tax on the payment screen. Payments are accepted via credit card, e-money (iD, QUICPay), and QR payment (PayPay and others); cash is not accepted. Receipts are issued via SMS or email; you can confirm by entering your phone number and receiving a call. No physical meal ticket is issued.

3Seating / Receiving Your Order

A staff member will guide you to one of the 6 counter seats. Disposable chopsticks and condiments (ichimi togarashi, pepper, sansho, garam masala) are stored in a drawer, and tea is self-served from a kettle on the counter. Glasses and ladles are metallic, contributing to a stylish atmosphere. Orders are served within a few minutes, ensuring quick turnover.

4Other Notes

Table condiments (ichimi, pepper, sansho, garam masala) are in the drawer. If you dislike the acidity of bonito flakes, choose yuzu noodles or add a small amount of garam masala to mellow the flavor. For tsukemen and curry tsukemen, it's recommended to finish with soup-wari (soup dilution). Adding shime-gohan allows you to enjoy it as a Chinese-style zosui (rice porridge) by soaking it in the soup. When leaving, proceed to the exit different from the entrance, following the one-way flow within the uniquely designed interior.

Miso Mendokoro Tasakaya (Ikebukuro): Navigating the Japanese-Only Ticket Machine and a Review of its Robust Miso Ramen

Miso Mendokoro Tasakaya, a miso ramen specialist located in Nishi-Ikebukuro, is just about a 5-minute walk from Ikebukuro Station's West Exit. This shop is known for its hearty miso ramen: a thick, rich, slightly sweet miso broth, firm thick noodles, melt-in-your-mouth chashu, and a towering pile of crisp bean sprouts (moyashi) – a truly robust and voluminous bowl. The menu features four main series: Miso Ramen, Kara-Miso Ramen (spicy miso), Aemen (a brothless mixed noodle dish), and IWGP Geki-Kara Ramen (extra hot). This guide, based on our visit on Friday, May 22, 2026 (arrived at 6:39 PM with a 13-person queue), provides photos and tips for first-time visitors to Japan. We'll cover how to navigate the Japanese-only, no-photo ticket vending machine using a color guide, understand the queuing situation (only 9 counter seats and long noodle cooking times mean slower turnover), tips to avoid crowds, and the cash-only payment policy.

Ramen Jiro "Kabuji" (Shinjuku-Kabukicho): The Complete Guide to Jiro Calls and Timing

Just a 1-minute walk from Seibu-Shinjuku Station North Exit, Ramen Jiro Shinjuku-Kabukicho, affectionately known as Kabuji (a nickname combining Kabukicho + Jiro), is the fourth oldest chokkei (direct-lineage) shop of the Ramen Jiro chain. Its late-night hours from 11:30 AM to 2:30 AM (Mon, Tue, Thu-Sun, closed Wed) are a unique advantage among chokkei shops, making it ideal for combining with Kabukicho sightseeing or as a late-night ramen after drinks. With its semi-emulsified pork-bone shoyu broth, homemade flat thick wavy noodles, unique call (shouted topping order ritual) culture (Ninniku (raw grated garlic), Yasai (boiled bean sprouts on top), Abura (solid back fat for richness), Karame (extra soy tare for stronger salty taste), Mashi (more, about 1.5×), Sukuname (less, about half)), the chokkei system of ticket-folding (a wordless system to request firmer or softer noodles by folding the meal ticket) to specify noodle hardness, lot system (a Jiro-specific eating rhythm where the same batch of customers finish together) manners, and specific rules (no phone calls, no photography except ramen, no drunken entry), this article provides a complete guide based on our visit on May 15, 2026, where we ordered a Small Ramen (¥950) with the call 'Ninniku Sukuname, Yasai, Abura'.
