1Before entering the store
Located in the Goshominami area, approximately a 1-minute walk from Karasuma Oike Station (Exit 6) on the Kyoto Municipal Subway Karasuma Line, and about an 8-minute walk from Karasuma Station (Exit 22) on the Hankyu Kyoto Line. Open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 11:00-15:00 / 17:30-22:00, closed on Thursdays. Even on weekdays around 11 AM, a wait of about 30 minutes is common, and on Saturdays around 8 PM, there are typically about 5 people waiting outside. The shop is popular with many international tourists, and at night, queues can exceed 20 people at certain times. It is relatively easier to enter on weekdays around 7 PM or just before closing around 9 PM.
2Purchasing meal tickets and ordering
There is no ticket machine. Instead, the staff brings a menu to customers waiting in line and takes orders before calling them into the store, a unique style. Signature items include Hachiku for 900 yen, Kurochiku for 900 yen, and limited-edition salt ramen, oyster ramen, Kishu duck salt soba, Kishu duck soy sauce soba, etc. Toppings include ajitama (seasoned egg) for 150 yen, nitamago (boiled egg), tokusei ramen (special ramen), and 大盛 (omori) (large size) for 130 yen. Side dishes include white rice, seared rare chashu rice bowl, seared mayo braised pork rice bowl, and tamago kake gohan (egg over rice). Payment is cash only; cards, e-money, and QR payments are not accepted.
3Seating and receiving your order
Staff will guide you to a counter seat (1st floor) or a table (2nd floor). Since orders are taken in advance, ramen often arrives within 5-10 minutes after seating, ensuring good turnover. The staff's flow management is meticulous, creating an atmosphere where even solo female diners or tourists can feel comfortable.
4Other tips
For the signature Hachiku, it is recommended to first enjoy the direct umami of the shellfish broth as is, then to change the flavor mid-way with black pepper or sansho pepper. It is customary to dip the rare chashu into the soup to enhance its sweetness. The seared rare chashu rice bowl is an excellent accompaniment to the ramen, and a popular way to finish the meal is to pour the remaining soup over it, turning it into a dashi chazuke-style dish.
