Mugi to Mensuke
麦と麺助
Overview
This is a top-class chicken clear-broth shoyu ramen shop in Kansai, a renowned restaurant in Nakatsu, Osaka, which won the Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026 and is ranked #1 in Osaka Prefecture and #46 nationwide (at the time of writing) on Tabelog Ramen. The signature dish, "Special Pheasant Shoyu Soba" (1,850 yen), features a supreme clear-broth soup made with three types of brand chickens: guinea fowl (pheasant meat), Mensuke chicken, and Hinai Jidori. This exquisite bowl perfectly balances the layered umami of chicken with the rich depth and sharpness of soy sauce, plus a subtle richness from chicken oil. The medium-thin straight noodles are prepared softly to complement the soup, and ordering the special includes a luxurious combination of three types of pork chashu (hanging-roasted, TOKYO X, etc.), pheasant meat, a seasoned soft-boiled egg, and hearty wontons with firm skin and filling. The popular side dish, "Aburi Chashu Don" (390 yen), combines fragrant pork with a seasoned soft-boiled egg, making it as popular as the ramen itself. Seasonally, the "Special Iriko Soba" (limited offer) also appears, offering a delightful experience where the wontons melt in your mouth. On Saturday evenings, special operations are held, such as the reservation-only "Kosaka Espresso" (3,000 yen with clay pot rice) and irregular offerings like "Natural Torafugu Shirako Soba," which generously use expensive ingredients like 100g for 3,000 yen, disregarding profit margins. Participation in these special events is via a reservation lottery through Instagram's official account (@moemen423) DM. Although it's a popular shop where long queues are common even on weekday afternoons, and waits of 1.5 hours are not unusual during busy times, regular customers, including international visitors, agree it's worth the wait.
How to Order

1Before Your Visit
Located a 3-minute walk from Osaka Metro Nakatsu Station. Opening hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday from 11:00 to 15:30; Saturday from 11:00 to 16:00 and 18:00 to 21:00; Sunday from 11:00 to 16:00. Closed on Tuesdays. Saturday evenings are reservation-only special operations (e.g., "Kosaka Espresso" and other limited menus), for which reservations are made via a lottery through Instagram's official account (@moemen423) DM. Long queues are typical even on weekday afternoons, and it's necessary to queue 30 minutes to 1 hour before opening; during busy times, waits of 1.5 hours are not uncommon. Allow ample time for your first visit.
2Purchasing Meal Tickets & Ordering
Purchase meal tickets from the machine inside the shop and then hand them to a staff member. Signature items include Special Pheasant Shoyu Soba for 1,850 yen, Pheasant Shoyu Soba, Special Iriko Soba (limited), Special Wonton (2 pieces) for 280 yen, Aburi Chashu Don for 390 yen, and extra TOKYO X 3-type chashu. Saturday evening reservation-only menus (e.g., Kosaka Espresso) require participation in a prior lottery. Payment is cash only; credit cards, e-money, and QR code payments are not accepted.
3Seating & Receiving Your Order
The shop has only 12 counter seats, creating a calm and high-quality atmosphere akin to a fine restaurant rather than a typical ramen shop. Staff service is attentive, and turnover is relatively good, but there's an atmosphere where customers, including a high proportion of international visitors, queue politely. Your order will be served in 5 to 10 minutes.
4Other Notes
As the soup is a clear-broth shoyu rich in chicken umami, it's recommended to taste it plain first. Enjoying the Aburi Chashu Don alternately with the ramen creates a synergistic effect. While winning the reservation lottery is required for Saturday evening's special operations, if you succeed, you can enjoy a world-class experience with rare ingredients (such as Kosaka chicken and shirako) that are different from the regular menu.
