1Before Entering the Store

Located in the mountains of Hige-dani, Umedani, Kizugawa City, Kyoto Prefecture. Realistic access is a 15-20 minute bus ride on Nara Kotsu bus (bound for Kamo Station / Minami-Kamodai 5-chome) from Kintetsu Nara Station, alighting at "Kami-Umedani" bus stop and walking 3 minutes, or a 10-minute drive from "Kizu IC" on the Keinawa Expressway. It is a secluded location difficult to reach by train, so most visitors come by car or bus. Open Tuesday-Sunday 11:00-15:00 / 18:00-23:00, closed Mondays (open if Monday is a public holiday). There is a dedicated parking lot, but expect a wait of about 10 minutes when it's full. Even on weekdays, waiting lines of 10 or more people are common, and on holidays and long weekends, queues exceeding an hour are not rare.

2Purchasing Meal Tickets and Ordering

The style is "buy first," where you purchase meal tickets from the vending machine at the store entrance before lining up. During busy times, you might purchase tickets before entering. The vending machine has menu photos, displaying the signature tonkotsu ramen (1,000 yen), tonkotsu chashu-men, W soup, limited edition flying fish dashi shoyu ramen, tonkotsu tantanmen, and sides such as seasoned egg and spare ribs. Payment is cash only; cards, e-money, and QR payments are not accepted.

When handing your meal ticket to the staff, you verbally specify your preferences in a Hakata-style call: noodle hardness (futsu (regular), katamen (firm), menkata (extra firm)), soup richness (futsu (regular), kotteri (very rich), dekikoi (as rich as possible)), and green onion amount (futsu (regular), ome (more), sukuname (less)). The ura-call (secret request) "dekikoi (as rich as possible)" is a fan favorite and will be gladly accommodated.

3Seating and Receiving Your Order

Staff will guide you to one of the 12 counter seats or 8 table seats (total 20 seats). Your order will be served in about 5-10 minutes, and the rich tonkotsu aroma wafting from the kitchen will quickly whet your appetite.

4Other

Table condiments include spicy mustard greens, garlic soy sauce, red pickled ginger, sesame, and ramen sauce. The spicy mustard greens have an excellent balance of spiciness and flavor from chili peppers, dramatically changing the ramen's impression when added. Garlic soy sauce is typically used to enhance richness later, and red pickled ginger to reset the palate. Kaedama (extra noodle) can be chosen from regular noodles or thin noodles; the combination of thin noodles with the thick soup is also popular, Hakata-style. Spicy mustard greens can also be purchased for takeout at the store.
