Namae no Nai Ramenya
名前のないラーメン屋
Overview
Namae no Nai Ramen-ya (The Nameless Ramen Shop) is part of a series of popular restaurants, including 'Wajo Ryomen Sugari' and 'Men-ya Takakura Nijo'. It opened in 2014 in the basement of a building in Kawaramachi Sanjo Agaru. Without any shop name or sign, you descend a staircase from an entrance marked only with a small 'NO NAME' on the building's directory, revealing a sophisticated hideaway space with a stone counter and kitchen. Its signature dish is 'Motsu Ramen', featuring yuzu-scented noodles combined with a rich seafood-based soup. The plump motsu (offal), lightly seared to reduce fat, is praised for being odor-free and milky, creating a deep flavor profile with garlic stems, tomatoes, cabbage, and green onions. A distinctive feature is the choice of yuzu-flavored noodles, kneaded with yuzu zest, in addition to regular noodles, with unique toppings like deep-fried broccoli and sweet mini tomatoes adding color. Tsuke-men (dipping noodles) are also popular, offering variations such as Motsu Tsuke-men with seared motsu and a seafood-pork bone dipping broth, Wagyu Tsuke-men topped with large slices of Japanese beef, and a spicy Curry Tsuke-men. The Motsu Don (offal rice bowl) with a raw egg and the Tori Dashi Ramen, featuring a complex chicken and seafood broth, are also highly rated, allowing guests to enjoy up to the final rice dish.
How to Order
1Before entering
Approximately a 3-minute walk from Keihan Sanjo Station, located on the first basement floor of a building slightly north of Kawaramachi Sanjo. There is no sign or shop name; the small 'NO NAME' on the building's directory is the only indicator. The entrance is at the bottom of the stairs, and the interior seats about 10-12 people, primarily at the counter. As it's a popular shop, it can get crowded during meal times, in which case you should wait near the entrance until a seat becomes available.
2Ordering and Payment
Select your menu items and complete payment using the tablet-style ordering terminal located near the entrance. Payment is cashless only; cash is not accepted. Please prepare QR code payment or a credit card. The terminal display includes some English, but menu names alone can sometimes be difficult to understand, so it's best to choose using the signature Motsu Ramen or Tsuke-men as a guide. Changes to yuzu noodles or additional toppings can also be made on this terminal.
3Seating and Receiving
After completing your order, staff will guide you to a counter seat. Chopsticks and condiments are stored in a drawer under the counter, and self-service cold water is available from a dispenser behind the seats. Service is quick, and your ramen often arrives within approximately 5 minutes.
4Other
If you'd like the finishing rice (shime no rice), please inform the staff when you're ready, and it will be served with curry paste on top. You can easily adjust the taste intensity and toppings to your liking, and combining Motsu Ramen with Motsu Don is also a classic choice.
