It has long continuous hours from weekday daytime to late night, with the peak demand for late-night meals (shime) being around 22:00 to 01:00. It is relatively less crowded before dinner time and in the early afternoon on weekdays.

2Purchase meal ticket and order

Purchase a meal ticket at the touch-panel vending machine located immediately to the right after entering. English menu is available, and language can be switched on the screen. Signature dishes include Shoyu Ramen (980 yen, comes with free small rice), Ginger Ramen, and Spicy Garlic Ramen. You can inform the staff of your desired noodle firmness when handing over your meal ticket. For additional toppings, purchase "Ajitama (flavored egg)", "Negi mashi (extra green onions)", "Karamiso Ninniku (spicy miso garlic)" etc. at the vending machine. All payment methods are accepted: cash, credit card, e-money (Suica-type, iD, QUICPay), and QR payment (PayPay, etc.).

3Seating and receiving

Total of 37 seats: 17 counter seats and 20 table seats. Staff will guide you to an available seat. Waiting time for serving is 2-3 minutes when not crowded, and around 5 minutes during busy times. Shoyu Ramen comes with a free small rice.

4Others

Spicy Miso Garlic (Karamiso Ninniku) is available on the table; adding a small amount in the latter half can change the flavor of the shoyu soup, giving it a punch. Late at night, there are many customers returning from drinks, and it's common to see customers enjoying bottled beer with ramen as a late-night meal (shime). Enjoying chashu as a snack with drinks and then ramen as the finisher is the local style.

Miso Mendokoro Tasakaya (Ikebukuro): Navigating the Japanese-Only Ticket Machine and a Review of its Robust Miso Ramen

Miso Mendokoro Tasakaya, a miso ramen specialist located in Nishi-Ikebukuro, is just about a 5-minute walk from Ikebukuro Station's West Exit. This shop is known for its hearty miso ramen: a thick, rich, slightly sweet miso broth, firm thick noodles, melt-in-your-mouth chashu, and a towering pile of crisp bean sprouts (moyashi) – a truly robust and voluminous bowl. The menu features four main series: Miso Ramen, Kara-Miso Ramen (spicy miso), Aemen (a brothless mixed noodle dish), and IWGP Geki-Kara Ramen (extra hot). This guide, based on our visit on Friday, May 22, 2026 (arrived at 6:39 PM with a 13-person queue), provides photos and tips for first-time visitors to Japan. We'll cover how to navigate the Japanese-only, no-photo ticket vending machine using a color guide, understand the queuing situation (only 9 counter seats and long noodle cooking times mean slower turnover), tips to avoid crowds, and the cash-only payment policy.
