Ramen Ichiro
らーめん一郎
Overview
A hidden gem ramen shop nestled in the basement of a multi-tenant building along Matsuya Dori in Ginza 3-chome, just a 3-minute walk from JR Yurakucho Station Ginza Exit and a 30-second walk from Tokyo Metro Ginza Line Ginza Station C8 Exit. The name "Ramen Ichiro" comes from the baseball player Ichiro, whom the owner is a huge fan of, and the shop is adorned with Ichiro memorabilia and photos of Shohei Ohtani and others. The menu prominently features Aomori characteristics with its unique offerings. The signature clear soy sauce broth (chintan shoyu supu), made with Aomori's local "Shamrock" chicken and yakiboshi (dried grilled fish), is light (tanrei) yet boasts a rich depth and umami of chicken dashi (broth), maintaining a gentle, old-fashioned chuka soba (Chinese noodle dish, a type of ramen) taste despite its prime Ginza location. In addition to the staple "Shoyu Ramen" (soy sauce ramen) for 830 yen and "Special Shoyu Ramen" for 1,080 yen, the "Shijimi Ramen" (clam ramen) for 950 yen, made with clams from Aomori's Lake Jusan, offers a spread of clam umami in its cloudy-clear broth. The menu also includes a wide array of options such as shio ramen (salt ramen), niboshi dashi ramen (dried sardine broth ramen), curry ramen, and mazemen (mixed noodles). For side dishes, you can enjoy Aomori's local ingredients, rare in Ginza, with options like "Nebuta-zuke Gohan" (rice with Nebuta pickles), "Nebuta Don" (Nebuta bowl), and "Chashu Don" (roast pork bowl), all made using Aomori's Stamina Gen Tare sauce. You can choose between medium-thick wavy noodles or thin noodles (transparent, reimen-style), and the tabletop yuzu kosho (citrus chili paste) and sansho oil (shibire-abura, numbing oil) are classic flavor enhancers (ajiben). Operating with just one person at a 6-seat counter, this is a rare establishment in prime Ginza that upholds popular prices starting from 830 yen.
How to Order

1Before Entering
Located in the basement of a multi-tenant building along Matsuya-dori street, a 3-minute walk from JR Yurakucho Station Ginza Exit and 30 seconds from Tokyo Metro Ginza Line Ginza Station Exit C8. There is a "Ramen Ichiro" sign above ground, but you need to go down a spiral staircase to the basement, so first-time visitors may find the location tricky. Opening hours are 11:00-23:00 (L.O. 22:30) on weekdays, and 11:00-21:00 on weekends and holidays, offering long continuous service. However, they may close early if soup or ingredients run out, and there are irregular early closures, so it's safest to check their official Instagram beforehand.
2Purchase Meal Ticket and Order
Upon entering the store, purchase a meal ticket from the ticket machine immediately to your right. The ticket machine has subtle photo displays and is mainly kanji-based, with no English on the screen, but an English paper menu is available at the counter. Choose from the signature "Shoyu Ramen" (830 yen), "Special Shoyu Ramen" (1,080 yen), "Shijimi Ramen" (950 yen) made with Shijimi clams from Aomori's Jusan Lake, Salt Ramen, Niboshi Dashi Ramen, Curry Ramen, or Mazemen. Side dishes such as "Nebuta-zuke Gohan" (Aomori's local pickles rice), "Nebuta Don," and "Chashu Don" (using Aomori Stamina Gen Tare sauce) can also be purchased from the same machine. Payment is accepted only via cash and QR payment (PayPay / d払い); credit cards and e-money are not accepted.
3Seating and Receiving
The shop is operated by a single person with only 6 counter seats. The owner starts preparing your order even before you sit down, so your ramen is served very quickly, within 2-5 minutes of being seated.
4Other Notes
The Yuzukosho and Sansho oil (numbing oil) on the table are signature flavor-changing items. Especially a few drops of Sansho oil in the Shoyu Ramen completely transforms its character. The side dish Nebuta-zuke Gohan uses local Aomori pickles, designed to neutralize the richness of the ramen. For Mazemen, the owner may provide sesame dressing, offering a unique flavor change.
