1Before entering

A direct affiliate of Yoshimura-ya, the main store of Iekei ramen, located a 2-minute walk from JR Kamata Station West Exit. The main branch is a roadside store along Yokohama's Loop Route 2, and the Kamata branch is very popular as an easily accessible direct affiliate in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Closed on Mondays and Sundays, open Tuesday-Saturday 11:00-22:00. Due to its compact structure with only 8 counter seats, the queue's progress is directly tied to the number of seats. Queues are common day and night, with examples such as about 1 hour from 11 AM on Sunday until eating, 13 people waiting outside at 1 PM on a weekday, 18 people waiting for 40 minutes at 6:20 PM on Sunday, and 19 people waiting for 1 hour at 3 PM on a holiday. However, there are also reports that the queue is shorter at night than during the day, with instances of getting in after just over 30 minutes with 15 people waiting at 8 PM on a weekday.

2Purchasing meal tickets and ordering

This is a saki-bai (buy ticket BEFORE joining the queue) style, where you first purchase meal tickets at the vending machine inside the entrance, then join the back of the queue outside. Signature dishes are Ramen (Small) 900 yen, (Medium) 1050 yen, (Large) 1150 yen, Chashumen (Small) 1100 yen, (Medium) 1250 yen. Toppings include Nori (seaweed) 150 yen, Ajitama (seasoned egg), Wakame (seaweed), Cabbage 150 yen, Negi-Chashu (scallion pork) 300 yen, Onion 100 yen, Ajinashi Kuzure Tamago (unseasoned broken egg) 20 yen, Takenoko (bamboo shoots) 80 yen, and limited-time Chashu Mabushi (minced pork over rice). The ticket machine accepts cash only; electronic money, QR codes, and credit cards are not accepted (it's best to prepare 1000-yen bills as the machine does not dispense change for high-denomination bills). When it's your turn to enter and hand your meal ticket to the staff at the counter seat, verbally state your 3-point Iekei standard customizations: noodle firmness (kata (firm)/futsu (regular)/yawa (soft)), flavor richness (koime (rich)/futsu (regular)/usume (light)), and oil quantity (ooime (more oil)/futsu (regular)/sukuname (less oil)). For those who want to emphasize the sharpness typical of direct affiliates, koime is standard, but for first-time visitors, "futsu" for all three is safe. The Iekei format of remembering each customer's order is well-established.

3Seating and receiving your order

Staff will guide you to a seat. The interior has a lively atmosphere with counter seating only. Service generally takes 5-15 minutes. The manager also thoughtfully provides paper aprons to customers wearing white shirts, demonstrating friendly service even to first-time visitors.

4Other information

The table is equipped with garlic, ginger, chili, black pepper, vinegar, tobanjan (chili bean paste), minced ginger, and gyōja ninniku (alpine leek), allowing for classic Iekei customizations. The signature ramen features a powerful soy sauce sharpness (kaeshi) with a rich pork bone umami and the fragrant aroma of chicken oil (chee-yu) layered on top, a direct affiliate style characterized by the punchy flavor inherited from the main store. The noodles are medium-thick, flat, and short noodles from Sakai Seimen, a favorite of Iekei shops, which are chewy and lift the rich soup well. Toppings include spinach, smoky chashu (pork belly), and glossy nori (seaweed). The classic style of dipping nori in the soup and eating it with rice is popular, and this pairing with rice is especially highly regarded. The chashu is pork shoulder loin with a distinct smoky flavor, and the smoky aroma transfers to the soup, creating depth.
