Ramen Montana Akihabara
ラーメン モンタナ 秋葉原店
Overview
"Ramen Montana Akihabara" opened in June 2024 as the Akihabara branch of "Ramen Montana," an Iekei (pork bone soy sauce based) ramen shop with its main store in Kagurazaka. It boasts a prime location, just a 1-2 minute walk from the Showa-dori Exit of JR Akihabara Station. The interior, vibrant with the energy characteristic of Iekei style, offers a spacious layout with 6 counter seats and 7 two-person tables, totaling 20 seats. The soup is a pork bone shoyu (soy sauce) base, typical of the Iekei style, but it follows the lineage of the Kagurazaka main store with a mild style that is not excessively rich. Its hallmark is an easy-to-drink quality without overly strong saltiness. While many contemporary Iekei shops tend towards a saltier profile, this ramen offers a gentle seasoning that allows you to enjoy the soup to the last drop, making it a welcoming bowl for those exploring Iekei ramen. The noodles are standard Iekei medium-thick noodles. Customization options, known as "Iekei Call" (Iekei kooru), for noodle firmness (katame/hard, futsuu/regular, yawame/soft), flavor richness (koime/strong, futsuu/regular, usume/light), and oil amount (oome/more, futsuu/regular, sukuname/less) are communicated verbally after being seated. The Chashu-men (ramen with sliced pork) for 1300 yen, featuring three thick, hand-sliced pork chashu (braised pork belly) slices, is also popular. This is a rare offering in the Iekei industry, where thinly sliced chashu, cut by machine, has become standard. Among the table condiments such as grated garlic, ginger, and karashi takana (spicy pickled mustard greens), the impressively generous quantity of karashi takana stands out. The pungent kick of karashi takana, when eaten with rice, is quite spicy, so it is advisable to start with a small amount. Payment options include cards, e-money, and various QR payment services (including Alipay/WeChat Pay), ensuring convenience for international visitors.
How to Order
1Before Entering
A great location, 1-2 minutes walk from JR Akihabara Station Showa-dori Exit. Open continuously from 11:00 to 22:00. Around noon on weekdays (before 12:00 PM) it's often nearly full, and a little later you'll almost certainly have to wait outside. Weekends and after 9:00 PM are generally easier to get in. This popular shop opened in June 2024 as the Akihabara branch of an Iekei ramen shop with its main store in Kagurazaka.
2Purchasing Meal Tickets
There is a ticket vending machine at the entrance, which is a touch panel type with photos and English support, making it easy to use (difficulty level 1). This is a 'buy first' system, where you purchase your ticket before heading to your seat. Signature items include Ramen for 900 yen, Negi Ramen for 1100 yen, Montana-men (all toppings) for 1200 yen, Chashu-men for 1300 yen, and small rice. Following Iekei custom, you verbally specify noodle firmness, flavor richness, and oil quantity to staff after being seated (katame (firm)/futsu (regular)/yawame (soft), koime (rich)/futsu (regular)/usume (light), ome (more oil)/futsu (regular)/sukuname (less oil)). All payment methods are accepted: cash, credit cards (VISA/Master/JCB/AMEX/Diners), QR code payments (PayPay/d払い/au PAY/Alipay/WeChat Pay), and e-money (Rakuten Edy/nanaco/WAON/iD/QUICPay/transportation IC cards).
3Seating and Receiving
There are a total of 20 seats (6 counter seats + 7 tables for 2 people), making it easy to accommodate families and groups of friends. Staff will guide you to an empty seat and confirm your Iekei preferences like noodle firmness. Service takes approximately 7-10 minutes.
4Other
The soup is a typical Iekei tonkotsu-shoyu (pork bone soy sauce) base, but following the Kagurazaka main store's lineage, it has a mild style that isn't overly rich and is easy to drink without excessive saltiness. Nori seaweed, spinach, and chashu pork are standard Iekei components, but a distinctive feature is the large quantity of karashi takana (spicy pickled mustard greens) available on the table, in addition to grated garlic and ginger. The kick from the karashi takana eaten with rice is quite spicy, so it's safer to try a small amount first. Note that free refills for rice were abolished starting November 2025.

家系ラーメンとしては本当に癖なくバランス取れた味わいが良いですね。キクラゲトッピングと卓上の辛子高菜があるのが良いんですよね。スープとの相性も良い、ライスのおかわりが終了したのは仕方ないですねぇ。 pic.twitter.com/T4PQquKrjI
