Ramen Ninja
らーめん 忍者
Overview
"Ramen Ninja" is a Jiro-kei (a popular ramen style known for generous portions and rich flavor) inspired shop located in Kanda Matsunaga-cho, a 2-minute walk from the Showa-dori Exit of JR Akihabara Station. True to its name, with the concept "Ramen, but meat is the star," it has gained popularity for its meat-centric menu, featuring items like "Deca Buta Ramen" and "Tokusei Ramen" (Special Ramen), which can truly be called a pork paradise. The soup is a mild, non-emulsified type with pork back fat (se-abura) floating on top, making it a slightly lighter preparation for a Jiro-kei style. The noodles are extra-thick, wavy noodles, about the thickness of disposable chopsticks, offering strong chewiness (koshi) and a pleasant texture that can be bitten through cleanly. Toppings are a pork feast, including Maru Buta (whole pork slice), 100g-class Koguta (tender, young pork), Hogushi Buta (shredded pork), Ajitama (seasoned egg), and Bara Roll Chashu (pork belly roll chashu). The Koguta in particular is so tender it can be broken with chopsticks, allowing for a truly satisfying meat-eating experience. The biggest feature is the selection of 7 free toppings (Yasai (vegetables), Ninniku (garlic), Abura (pork fat), Karame (extra seasoning), Kara-age (spicy fried tempura bits), Curry Mayo, and Kuro Ma-yu (black garlic oil)). This offers a wider range of choices than standard Jiro-kei shops, allowing you to customize your bowl to your exact preference. "Curry Mayo" and "Kara-age" are unique toppings rarely seen elsewhere, creating complex flavor variations. Soupless ramen (shirunashi/mazesoba) is also a popular menu item. The Tokusei Ramen (Special Ramen), priced at 1020 yen, is served in a large 21cm diameter bowl, making an impressive visual impact and perfect for social media. Open until 10:45 PM (22:45), it is a representative Jiro-kei shop in Akihabara, highly valued as a "shime ramen" (a finishing meal after drinks).
How to Order
1Before Entering
Located on the 1F of Akihabara Myokenya Building in Kanda Matsunaga-cho, a 2-minute walk from Akihabara Station (Hibiya Line) or Akihabara Station Showa-dori Exit (JR Line). Open Mon-Sat 11:00-22:45, Sun/Holidays 11:00-21:30, no regular closing days, available until late night. Around 4 PM on weekdays, you can enter without waiting; during prime times like 5 PM and 7 PM, it's typically 70% full or completely packed. It's a popular shop, with about 5 customers already waiting when it opens at 11 AM on Sundays.
2Purchasing Meal Tickets
There are ticket machines outside and inside the shop; purchase first. No photos, no English, Japanese only. Signature items include Ramen (830 yen), Deca-Buta Ramen (980 yen), Buta Mashi Ramen (1020 yen), Tokusei Ramen (1020 yen), Ninja Ramen (1400 yen), etc. Large portion of noodles (120 yen), raw egg (70 yen), half portion of noodles also available. A feature is the choice of 7 free toppings (yasai (vegetables) / ninniku (garlic) / abura (back fat) / karame (more sauce) / Spicy Fried Bits / Curry Mayo / Black Ma-yu Oil), offering a wider selection than standard Jiro-style shops. When handing over your meal ticket, staff will first ask about "the amount of yasai (vegetables) and the presence of ninniku (garlic)," so respond to that first, then verbally call out your other free toppings. If you choose yasai mashi-mashi (double vegetables), the vegetables alone weigh 1.5kg, so yasai mashi (more vegetables) is standard if you want a controlled amount. Payment is cash only; cards, e-money, and QR code payments are not accepted.
3Seating and Receiving Your Order
Only 11 counter seats. During busy times, storage space for belongings is limited, so large bags or coats should be placed on your lap or on the back of your chair. Orders are served in about 5-10 minutes; if you handed over your meal ticket in advance, it might be within 3 minutes.
4Other Notes
A visual paradise of pork: a large 21cm diameter bowl piled high with yasai (vegetables), marubuta (round pork slices), kobuta (100g-class chunk of pork), ajitama (seasoned egg), and hogushi-buta (shredded pork). The soup is mild, non-emulsified, with floating pork back fat. A Jiro-style inspired ramen where you can enjoy complex flavor changes with free toppings like Spicy Fried Bits and Curry Mayo. The pork becomes softer if submerged in the soup to warm it up. Soupless (mazesoba style) ramen is also popular.
