Ramen Tsumugi
らーめん 紬麦
Overview
Located just a 1-minute walk from Akihabara Station, this hidden gem of a ramen shop is quietly nestled in the basement of a multi-tenant building. Their homemade noodles, crafted from the finest domestic wheat 'Sanuki no Yume,' boast a chewy, udon-like texture that truly brings out the wheat's rich flavor. Run by an elderly couple, this warm and inviting shop serves a carefully simmered Japanese-style dashi soy sauce soup that, despite its simplicity, achieves an exceptionally high level of perfection. Please note: Cash only (new bills are not accepted). With short operating hours and frequent closures, we recommend checking their schedule before your visit.
How to Order
1Before entering the shop (if there's a queue)
The shop is located in a 'dungeon-like' basement of a multi-tenant building facing Showa-dori, a 1-minute walk from Akihabara Station. Look for the lottery ticket booth and banners saying 'Ramen' and 'Waraji Katsu-don'. Business hours are short, and the shop is closed on Sundays, public holidays, and the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Saturdays of each month, so it's a good idea to check the business days before your visit (Business days: Lunch and dinner on Mon-Thu, lunch and dinner on Fri, lunch only on the 1st Saturday).
2Purchase meal ticket / Order
There is a ticket vending machine in front of the shop (before the basement entrance). Whether there's a queue or not, you must first buy a meal ticket here before proceeding into the shop or joining the end of the queue. This is a 'buy first' style. The vending machine does not have English indications or photos. Payment is cash only (cards, e-money, and QR payment are not accepted). New banknotes cannot be used, but they can provide change, so please ask a staff member.
3Seating and receiving your order
There are a total of 12 seats: 7 counter seats, 2 two-person tables, and 1 single-person table. An elderly couple warmly runs the shop. Hand your meal ticket to them at the seat you are guided to.
4Other
The signature dish features chewy homemade noodles, similar to udon, and a soy sauce-based soup with Japanese dashi. For your first visit, 'Shoyu' (soy sauce) or 'Shio' (salt) ramen is recommended. 'Tsumugi Ramen' is a unique variation with chili oil and sesame oil, so it's safer to try it on your second visit or later. The famous Waraji Katsu-don (400 yen) has an exquisite crispy coating and is highly recommended as a set.
