Ramen Yamachan
らーめんやまちゃん
Overview
Located on B2F of the Osaka Ekimae Dai-ni Building, Ramen Yamachan is a shop that combines the bold Jiro-kei style with Osaka's local Takaida-kei. It features a sharp soup made with rich dark soy sauce and pork back fat, extremely thick udon-like noodles, and a mountain of bean sprouts. The ordering system can be a bit complex; unlike typical Jiro-kei shops where staff ask for toppings (the 'call' system), here you must verbally request free toppings such as extra fat (abura-mashi), garlic (ninniku), or an additional 50g of noodles (men-mashi). Furthermore, there's a mix of free and paid toppings like extra vegetables (yasai-mashi), extra green onions (negi-mashi), and flavored egg (ajitama). We recommend first-time visitors carefully check the menu before ordering. Noodle portions can be adjusted from 100g in 50g increments. Popular side dishes include Heta-don (a rice bowl topped with diced char siu) and TKM (Tamago Kake Men – noodles with raw egg). Payment is limited to PayPay, d払い (d-barai), or cash only; credit cards and other e-money are not accepted. The shop is conveniently located right by Osaka Station and Kitashinchi Station, making it suitable for tourists wanting to experience Jiro-kei and Takaida-kei in Umeda. However, due to the complex ordering process and rich flavor, it is recommended for intermediate ramen eaters or above.
How to Order
(Check the official account below in advance for irregular closures and updates)

1Before entering
A street-level shop located in the retro Showa-era restaurant district on B2F of Osaka Ekimae No.2 Bldg, a 1-minute walk from Kitashinchi Station. Open in two shifts (Mon-Fri 11:00-15:30 / 17:00-21:00, Sat-Sun-Holidays 17:00-20:30), with irregular holidays (announced on Instagram one month in advance). On weekdays during 12:00-13:00, there is usually an outdoor queue of 4-5 people, but turnover is fast, and you can enter within 10-15 minutes. It is relatively easier to enter after 14:00 and on weekends.
2Ordering and Ticket Purchase
There is no ticket machine. It's a counter-only, order-at-the-seat, post-payment system where you order verbally after being seated. The signature "Ramen" price varies by noodle amount (100g 900 yen / 200g 950 yen / 300g 1,000 yen), and a 50g increase in noodles is free. For soupless ramen, choose between "Soy Sauce flavor" and "Spice flavor" (200g 1,000 yen / 300g 1,050 yen). When ordering, staff will ask if you want "abura (abura, back fat)" and "ninniku (ninniku, garlic)", both of which are not included by default and are free customizations. "Yasai-mashi (yasai-mashi, more vegetables)" costs 100 yen. Other toppings like cheese (100 yen), raw egg (100 yen), ajitama (seasoned egg) (100 yen), and extra green onions (100 yen) are also communicated verbally. Payment is accepted via cash and QR code payment (PayPay / d払い); credit cards and electronic money are not accepted.
3Seating and Receiving
The shop is compact with only 8 counter seats. Staff will guide you to your seat and then take your order. Serving time is about 10-15 minutes during busy periods, and 5-7 minutes when less crowded. The dish features a mountain of vegetables (bean sprouts), two thick slices of chashu, and seasoned abura (back fat) drizzled like dressing, with thick, log-like noodles.
4Other
Table condiments include white pepper, black pepper, ichimi (chili powder), and mayonnaise, offering the enjoyment of changing the flavor in the latter half of your meal. For soupless ramen (TKM), it's common to mix up to two free raw eggs into the noodles, and then add "oi-meshi" (extra rice) for 50 yen to the remaining sauce as a finisher. While extra abura (back fat) is free, it can become too rich, so it's recommended to try the default amount for your first visit. Since a 50g increase in noodles is free, the combination of 100g noodles + free extra abura (back fat) offers good value for women and those who eat less.
