Shinamen Hashigo Ginza Yonchome
支那麺 はしご 銀座四丁目店
Overview
This is the Ginza Yonchome branch of the 'Shinamen Hashigo' group, which has three locations in the Ginza area. While offering the same lineage of 'Dandanmen' as the main store, the Yonchome branch is particularly famous for its customization with extra yuzu and green onions. Its more accessible location and greater seating capacity compared to the main store lead to a high repeat customer rate. Signature dishes, similar to the main store, are 'Dandanmen' (¥1,000) and 'Paikou Dandanmen' (Sparerib Dandanmen, ¥1,200). This unique creation, distinct from Sichuan Dandanmen, features a clear shoyu (soy sauce)-based soup layered with the richness and spice of sesame paste (zhīmajiàng) and the refreshing aroma of yuzu. A wide variety of toppings are available, including 'Paikou' (spareribs fried with a curry-flavored coating), 'Chiisui' (chicken), 'Daarou' (pork belly), and 'Zaasai' (pickled mustard greens). The noodles are ultra-thin and straight, reminiscent of Hong Kong noodles, with a pleasant firm bite that blends well with the soup, similar to the main store. Complimentary rice and thinly sliced 'Ryoma Takuan' (pickled daikon radish) are also available on the table. A favorite among regulars is to place takuan on rice and pour soup over it. Popular side dishes include shumai (dumplings), which can be ordered one piece at a time. A casual staple of the Hashigo group in the Ginza area, this establishment has garnered fans for over 20 years.
How to Order
1Before Visiting
3-minute walk from Higashi-Ginza Station, a street-level shop slightly off Showa-dori. Open Monday-Saturday 11:00-21:00, closed Sundays. Available for continuous service without a mid-day break. During lunch peak (around 12:00), there may be a few people waiting, but service is quick (3-5 minutes), so wait times are around 10 minutes. It's relatively less crowded around 15:00 and after 19:00, making these good times if you want to eat slowly.
2Purchasing Meal Tickets & Ordering
There's a ticket machine at the entrance; purchase meal tickets immediately upon entering. Unlike the main branch, this location operates on a meal ticket system. Choose from the signature 'Dandanmen' (1,000 yen) or 'Paikou Dandanmen' (Sparerib Dandanmen, 1,200 yen). Whether to get free rice or not should be verbally told to the staff after purchasing tickets. Customizations for spiciness ('futsu' (regular) / 'okara' (extra spicy)), 'yuzu-ome' (more yuzu), or 'negi-ome' (more green onions) should be verbally conveyed when handing the ticket to the staff. Payment is cash only; cards, e-money, and QR code payments are not accepted.
3Seating & Receiving Your Order
All 16 seats are at the counter. When crowded, wait on the bench at the entrance. Staff will guide you to an empty seat. Service is fast, 3-5 minutes.
4Other Tips
A popular way regulars eat is to place the finely shredded 'Ryoma Takuan' (pickled daikon) from the table on rice and pour Dandanmen soup over it. A unique way to enjoy the Yonchome store, where the refreshing yuzu stands out, is to order 'yuzu-ome' (more yuzu). The side shumai (can be ordered from 1 piece) is also popular; adding a small amount of vinegar later changes its flavor profile.
