Spice Ramen Manriki Akihabara
スパイス・ラー麺 卍力 秋葉原店
Overview
Spice Ramen Manriki Akihabara is a specialty spice ramen shop located in Taito, Taito-ku, a 5-minute walk from the Showa-dori Exit of JR Akihabara Station. This popular establishment, which has a sister branch in Kasai, is known for its signature curry-flavored spice soup with an aroma that fills your nose, offering a unique path that deviates slightly from conventional ramen. The soup boasts a complex flavor from a combination of multiple spices, a mysterious creation where the spiciness is mild yet a clear perspiration effect can be felt. Roughly chopped garlic adds texture and richness, and the inclusion of ginger flavor provides a depth reminiscent of spice curry. The noodles are medium-thick and straight, entwining well with the rich soup. Toppings include thick chashu (braised pork belly), fall-apart tender chicken, bean sprouts, ajitama (seasoned soft-boiled egg), and green onions or cilantro (selectable after seating). Cilantro is highly recommended as it pairs exceptionally well with the spice-based dishes, and a double cilantro order is also available. Table condiments are simply vinegar, offering a clean minimalism with minimal options for altering the flavor. This highly original bowl will captivate spice curry and cilantro lovers, with its charm further enhanced when enjoyed with the sensibility of ethnic cuisine. Paper aprons are essential as the soup is prone to splashing. It's a unique establishment supported by customers in Akihabara who seek "something a little different from ramen."
How to Order
1Before entering
Located 5 minutes walk from JR Akihabara Station Showa-dori Exit, 5 minutes walk from Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line Akihabara Station Exit 1, and 8 minutes walk from Tokyo Metro Ginza Line Suehirocho Station Exit 1, in Taito 1-chome, Taito-ku. Open Mon-Sat 11:00-21:00, Sun 11:00-17:00. On weekdays after 1 PM or in the evening, it's common to see 2-3 people waiting outside, and as a popular shop, queues form regardless of time. There is also a sister store in Kasai.
2Purchasing meal tickets
There is a ticket vending machine at the entrance of the store. It has pictures but no English, yet it's easy to operate. Purchase your meal ticket first, then head to your seat. Signature dishes include Spice Ramen, Special Spice Ramen, Spice Coriander Ramen, additional bean sprouts, and seasoned egg topping. After being seated, staff will ask, "Would you like green onions or coriander for your topping?" Coriander is highly recommended for spice-based ramen as it pairs perfectly. It's also possible to order double coriander. Payment is cash only; cards, e-money, and QR code payments are not accepted.
3Seating and receiving
There are only 13 counter seats. Staff will guide you to an empty seat. Serving time is around 7-10 minutes, but it may take longer due to processes like stir-frying bean sprouts and blending the soup. Wearing a paper apron is recommended as the soup may splash due to the spices.
4Other notes
The soup is a unique, curry-flavored spice soup with an aroma of spices that wafts through your nose. It has a moderate spiciness but a noticeable sweating effect. Roughly chopped garlic adds texture and richness, creating a complex flavor with the punch of ginger and garlic. The noodles are medium-thick and straight, pairing well with the rich soup. The only condiment on the table is vinegar; adding a small amount later enhances the soup's sharpness with acidity. The chashu topping is thick, tender, and has a good amount of fat. This "slightly different bowl of ramen" is a hit with spice curry lovers and coriander enthusiasts.
