Notes
Weak signal can delay ordering, large nori is difficult to eat so take small bites, tourist pricing makes it a bit expensive.

1Before entering

A specialty shop for chicken paitan ramen, located in a back alley just 1-3 minutes' walk from Asakusa Station on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line, very close to Senso-ji Temple. It stays open late, serving as a rare spot in Asakusa for late-night ramen after 10 PM. As it's near the tourist center, it's often relatively empty during weekday lunchtimes and early evenings, but expect a queue during New Year's holidays and weekend peaks. On Thursdays in the 8 PM hour, you might get in without waiting, making it suitable for late-night use.

2Purchasing meal tickets and ordering

Ordering is done by scanning a QR code with your smartphone after being seated, then selecting items on the mobile order screen and submitting. Payment is also completed on your smartphone, supporting credit cards, PayPay, and various QR code payments. Since poor signal conditions can sometimes delay ordering, it's advisable to check your connection before entering. Signature dishes include Rich Chicken POTA Soba (1300 yen), Special Rich Chicken POTA Soba (1600 yen), Spicy Chicken Paitan Ramen (1300 yen), Special Ramen (1600 yen), Light Clear Chicken Soba (Salt/Soy Sauce), Chicken Broth Soy Sauce Ramen (1380 yen), Kombu Water Chicken Tsukemen, 3 Juicy Chicken Dumplings (320 yen), and Soft-boiled Egg Topping.

3Seating and receiving your order

The seating includes 4 counter seats, 1 four-person table, 3 face-to-face tables, and additional seating further back, giving it a deep layout. Staff will guide you to an available seat, and orders are served in about 6-11 minutes. Hall staff may be foreign nationals, and some seats might not have napkins, so confirm upon entry if needed.

4Other notes

The signature Rich Chicken POTA Soba features a rich, potage-like soup condensed with chicken umami, which isn't as heavy as it looks, allowing you to finish the soup entirely. The medium-thick noodles pair well with the soup, and the lemon slice topping acts as an accent for flavor change. The Light Clear Chicken Soba (Salt/Soy Sauce) each has a delicate finish, the Spicy Chicken Paitan is mildly spicy and easy to eat even for those who dislike spice, and the Kombu Water Chicken Tsukemen combines cold noodles in kombu water with a rich dipping sauce. The Special versions are luxurious, topped with chashu, soft-boiled egg, and large nori (seaweed); since the nori is large, eat it little by little from the edge. The Juicy Chicken Dumplings are a good complement to the ramen.

Miso Mendokoro Tasakaya (Ikebukuro): Navigating the Japanese-Only Ticket Machine and a Review of its Robust Miso Ramen

Miso Mendokoro Tasakaya, a miso ramen specialist located in Nishi-Ikebukuro, is just about a 5-minute walk from Ikebukuro Station's West Exit. This shop is known for its hearty miso ramen: a thick, rich, slightly sweet miso broth, firm thick noodles, melt-in-your-mouth chashu, and a towering pile of crisp bean sprouts (moyashi) – a truly robust and voluminous bowl. The menu features four main series: Miso Ramen, Kara-Miso Ramen (spicy miso), Aemen (a brothless mixed noodle dish), and IWGP Geki-Kara Ramen (extra hot). This guide, based on our visit on Friday, May 22, 2026 (arrived at 6:39 PM with a 13-person queue), provides photos and tips for first-time visitors to Japan. We'll cover how to navigate the Japanese-only, no-photo ticket vending machine using a color guide, understand the queuing situation (only 9 counter seats and long noodle cooking times mean slower turnover), tips to avoid crowds, and the cash-only payment policy.

Ramen Jiro "Kabuji" (Shinjuku-Kabukicho): The Complete Guide to Jiro Calls and Timing

Just a 1-minute walk from Seibu-Shinjuku Station North Exit, Ramen Jiro Shinjuku-Kabukicho, affectionately known as Kabuji (a nickname combining Kabukicho + Jiro), is the fourth oldest chokkei (direct-lineage) shop of the Ramen Jiro chain. Its late-night hours from 11:30 AM to 2:30 AM (Mon, Tue, Thu-Sun, closed Wed) are a unique advantage among chokkei shops, making it ideal for combining with Kabukicho sightseeing or as a late-night ramen after drinks. With its semi-emulsified pork-bone shoyu broth, homemade flat thick wavy noodles, unique call (shouted topping order ritual) culture (Ninniku (raw grated garlic), Yasai (boiled bean sprouts on top), Abura (solid back fat for richness), Karame (extra soy tare for stronger salty taste), Mashi (more, about 1.5×), Sukuname (less, about half)), the chokkei system of ticket-folding (a wordless system to request firmer or softer noodles by folding the meal ticket) to specify noodle hardness, lot system (a Jiro-specific eating rhythm where the same batch of customers finish together) manners, and specific rules (no phone calls, no photography except ramen, no drunken entry), this article provides a complete guide based on our visit on May 15, 2026, where we ordered a Small Ramen (¥950) with the call 'Ninniku Sukuname, Yasai, Abura'.
