Torio Keisuke Akihabara
鶏王けいすけ 秋葉原店
Overview
"Tori-O Keisuke Akihabara Branch" is a specialized tori paitan (chicken broth) ramen shop located in Sotokanda, a 4-minute walk from the Electric Town Exit of JR Akihabara Station. It is part of the Keisuke Group, which originated from "Shodai Keisuke" opened in 2005 by Keisuke Takeda, who trained in Japanese and French cuisine. This particular branch first opened in 2011 as "Gokukara BLACK Tsukemen Nanadaime Keisuke" (Extreme Spicy BLACK Tsukemen 7th Generation Keisuke) and was renovated in 2013 to specialize in chicken soba. Its most distinctive feature is a whole chicken leg served in place of chashu (braised pork belly) on top of the ramen. It's so tender you can break it apart with chopsticks, with crispy skin and fall-off-the-bone meat. This unique presentation, enjoyable whether dipped in the soup or eaten as is, is also popular for its visually appealing look on social media. You can choose between two types of soup: "Kottei Tori Paitan" (rich chicken broth) and "Assari Tori Chintan" (light chicken broth). The tori paitan (chicken broth) is rich with plenty of chiyu (chicken oil), yet it doesn't feel heavy. The noodles are thin and straight, designed to fully absorb the tori paitan (chicken broth). The signature "Tori-O Ramen Special" features a huge sheet of nori (seaweed), creating a luxurious visual appeal. The side menu offers a diverse lineup rarely seen in Akihabara, including Tsukemen (dipping noodles), Black Spicy Noodles, Tantanmen, and Yodare-dori Mazesoba (spicy chicken mixed noodles), providing a wide variety for chicken lovers to visit again and again. Side dishes like the Pork Belly Stamina Bowl and half-rice are also high quality, and ordering them as a set with ramen is popular. You can also enjoy a change of flavor by adding a kick with the special spicy miso for chicken.
How to Order
1Before Entering
Located in Sotokanda 1-chome, a 4-minute walk from JR Akihabara Station Electric Town Exit along the JR guard towards Ochanomizu. Open 11:00-21:00. The restaurant is almost always full around 12:15 PM and after 2 PM on weekdays, but around 8:30 PM on Fridays, it's about 30% full, making it a relatively easier time to get in.
2Purchasing Meal Tickets
There's a ticket vending machine at the entrance, with photos but no English, difficulty level 2. Purchase meal tickets first before heading to your seat. Signature dishes include Tori-Oh Ramen (Chicken Paitan / Chicken Chintan), Tori-Oh Ramen Special (with a whole chicken leg), Tsukemen, Black Spicy Noodles, Tantanmen, Yodare-Dori Mazesoba, Ajitama topping, half rice, and Pork Rib Stamina Bowl. You can choose between "Rich Chicken Paitan" and "Light Chicken Chintan" soup. Payment is accepted via cash and QR code (PayPay), but credit cards and e-money are not accepted.
3Seating and Receiving Your Order
The restaurant has only 17 counter seats. Staff will guide you to an empty seat; hand them your meal ticket. Orders are served in about 5-10 minutes, with chicken leg dishes taking slightly longer. There's a small plate available on the counter for chicken bones, making it easier to eat if you place the bones there.
4Other Information
The biggest feature is the whole chicken leg served in place of chashu. It's so tender you can pull it apart with chopsticks, with fragrant skin and a flaky texture. You can enjoy it immersed in the soup or eaten as is. This shop was founded by Keisuke Takeda, who trained in Japanese and French cuisine at the Keisuke Group. The ajitama (seasoned egg) is also of the group's standard quality. A spicy miso paste for chicken is available on the counter, adding a sharper flavor if you add it later. Tantanmen and Mazesoba are unusual offerings for Akihabara, providing a wide range of flavors centered around chicken paitan.
