Yokohama Iekei Sohonzan Yoshimuraya Chokei Ramen Uchidaya
横浜家系総本山 吉村家直系店 ラーメン内田家
Overview
Located a 7-minute walk from Hakata Station, this is a direct lineage shop of Yoshimura-ya, the head family of Yokohama Iekei ramen, which first arrived in Kyushu in 2020. As the westernmost direct lineage shop in Japan, it's a must-visit bowl for Iekei fans. A "call system" (an Iekei custom) is in place, where you verbally specify your preferences for flavor intensity, amount of oil, and noodle firmness when ordering. It features chewy noodles from Sakai Seimen, smoky chashu, and a robust pork bone soy sauce soup enhanced with chicken oil. The combination of ramen and rice is popular, with dipping toasted nori (seaweed) into the soup and wrapping it around rice being a classic way to enjoy it. It operates on a meal ticket system, and payment is cash only. The shop has a total of 19 seats: 7 at the counter and 12 at table counters.
How to Order
1Before Entering
It is located in Hakata Ekimae 3-chome, a 7-minute walk from Hakata Station. Opening hours are 11:00-22:00 from Monday to Thursday, Sunday, holidays, and the day after holidays, and 11:00-23:45 on Friday, Saturday, and the day before holidays. It is closed on New Year's Day and January 2nd, and year-end/New Year holidays may have irregular hours. Opened in 2020 as Kyushu's first direct-line Yokohama Iekei (Yokohama-style family) ramen shop, it is known as a place Iekei fans visit when traveling to Kyushu. Hakata Station area has many Tonkotsu (pork bone) ramen shops, and Iekei specialty shops are rare, so there might be times during weekday lunch when you can enter without waiting, but on holiday afternoons and evenings, there may be a wait of 10-20 minutes.
2Purchase Meal Ticket and Order
It is a pre-purchase system where you buy a meal ticket first at the ticket machine at the entrance of the shop. The ticket machine has photos but no English display, so it's smoother if you decide beforehand on menu items like "Ramen" (900 yen), "Tokusei Ramen" (Special Ramen) (1,550 yen), "Chashu Ramen" (Roasted Pork Ramen) (1,300 yen), toppings like nori (seaweed), spinach, ajitama (seasoned egg), and rice (refills available). Payment is cash only; cards, e-money, and QR code payments are not accepted.
3Seating and Receiving
When you hand over your meal ticket, staff will guide you to one of 7 counter seats or 12 table counter seats (total 19 seats). As is customary for Iekei, before your order is served, you verbally state your preferences for noodle firmness, flavor richness, and amount of chicken oil, such as "All futsu (regular)" or "katame (firm), koime (rich), abura-oome (more oil)". If you are not used to it, saying "All futsu (regular)" will get you the standard preparation. It typically takes 5-10 minutes for your order to be served, and the harmony of Sakai Seimen's medium-thick noodles and rich Tonkotsu Shoyu (pork bone soy sauce) soup is a characteristic of direct-line Iekei.
4Other
On the table, you'll find various seasonings for flavor changes, such as garlic, grated ginger, chopped ginger, garlic chips, vinegar, sesame, and chili oil. "Rice + Nori (seaweed)" is a classic Iekei combination, where you dip the nori in the soup and then wrap it around rice; rice refills are available. The chashu (roasted pork) has a strong smoked flavor, allowing you to enjoy a unique direct-line Iekei bowl in Hakata.
