Yoshimino Seimenjo Shinmachi Honten
吉み乃製麺所 新町本店
Overview
“Yoshimino Seimenjo Shinmachi Honten” is a miso ramen specialty shop located in Shinmachi, Nishi-ku, Osaka, just a 4-minute walk from Nishiohashi Station. It's a popular spot in the office district near many companies, often said to have queues too long to visit during lunchtime. Despite its appearance with a mountain of vegetables and chopped garlic, which might lead some to mistakenly think it's Jiro-kei (Jiro-style ramen - known for large portions, thick noodles, and generous toppings), it is a unique establishment that thoroughly pursues perfection as a pure miso ramen. The signature “Makanai Miso Ramen” (Makanai: Staff Meal) features a rich miso soup piled high with bean sprouts, paired with firm, flat noodles. Instead of chashu (braised pork), it's topped with coarse ground meat and chopped garlic. The recommended way to eat it is to gradually dissolve the garlic into the soup, adding a powerful kick. A unique system allows you to customize your meal by choosing noodle portions (150g/200g) and vegetable portions (250g/350g), letting you tailor the volume to your preference. The addition of garlic accent dramatically changes the profile of the bowl, enhancing the deeply flavorful miso. The menu also offers variations such as “Tobidashi Ramen” (most popular) and “Noko Gyokai Tori Tonkotsu Tsukemen” (Tsukemen: dipping noodles - where noodles are dipped into a separate bowl of soup), which repeat customers enjoy comparing. While there's no large soup option, you can adjust the volume with Kaedama (Kaedama: extra noodles for 150 yen). The compact shop has a total of 10 counter seats. In the back, you can sometimes see staff members chopping garlic with a spatula, adding to the charm of experiencing a truly handmade bowl being prepared. Please note that the shop is closed on Wednesdays, has a break from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and only accepts cash payments.
How to Order
1Before entering
4 minutes walk (289m) from Exit 1 of Nishi-Ohashi Station on the Osaka Metro Nagahori Tsurumi-ryokuchi Line. Open from 11:00 to 22:00 (closed for a break from 16:00 to 17:00), closed on Wednesdays. During lunch peak hours in the office area near companies, there may be a wait, but it's relatively less crowded after 17:45 on weekdays or during the mid-day hours after 14:00.
2Purchasing meal tickets / Ordering
A ticket machine is located at the entrance, but it has no photos and no English (difficulty level 3 or higher). Options include the signature Makanaimiso Ramen (recommended), Tobidashi Ramen, and Rich Seafood Chicken Tonkotsu Tsukemen. Makanaimiso Ramen has a unique system where you choose noodle quantity (150g / 200g) and vegetable quantity (250g / 350g), which is confirmed by staff after selecting on the machine. An extra noodle (kaedama) is 150 yen. Payment is cash only; QR payment, e-money, and cards are not accepted.
3Seating / Receiving your order
A compact interior with a total of 10 seats, mainly counter seating. After purchasing your ticket, take an available seat (staff will guide you when crowded). Service is quick, taking about 5 minutes.
4Other
The signature Makanaimiso Ramen features a rich miso soup with bean sprouts piled high, served with firm flat noodles. Instead of chashu, it comes with coarsely ground meat and minced garlic. The standard way to eat it is to gradually dissolve the garlic to add punch. Due to its appearance with a mountain of vegetables, it is sometimes mistaken for Jiro-kei, but it is a dish that pursues the perfection of pure miso ramen. As it uses garlic, consider your plans after eating.
