Yosuko Ramen Meimon
揚子江ラーメン 名門
Overview
A long-established shio (salt) ramen shop with over 30 years of history, located in Doyama-cho (Joshi Daikoji), Umeda, Osaka. Inheriting the taste of the former 'Yangzijiang Ramen Sohonten,' it is a representative 'shime ramen' (last meal after drinking) of Osaka, often mentioned alongside 'Yangzijiang of Kita and Kinryu of Minami.' The signature 'Yangzijiang Ramen' (880 yen) features a clear salt chintan soup made from chicken and pork bones, thin straight noodles, and a unique topping of garland chrysanthemum (shungiku). It is light yet packed with umami, gently warming the stomach after a night out. The distinct bitterness and texture of the garland chrysanthemum perfectly complement the salt soup, offering a surprising and delightful combination in ramen. Another popular dish is the 'Paikou Ramen' (980 yen), topped with about four large pieces of tender braised pork belly (kakuni) simmered in a sweet and savory sauce, so soft it falls apart with chopsticks. Regulars enjoy adding the paikou to the light soup to change its flavor, or placing it on white rice for a 'shime chazuke' (ochazuke-style last meal). A unique feature is the rotating table counter in some sections, where dishes are served by spinning the table rather than directly handing them from the staff. Lunch sets such as Set A (with white rice + stewed meat) and Set B (with fried rice) are also affordably priced, and fried rice and gyoza are popular. The shop is open until 4 AM from Monday to Saturday, and until 11 PM on Sundays, long loved by locals and tourists alike, primarily for its 'shime ramen' demand after drinking.
How to Order
1Before Entering
Located in the bustling entertainment and drinking district of Doyama-cho (Joshi Daikoji), a 5-minute walk from Osaka Metro Tanimachi Line 'Nakazakicho Station' and a 10-minute walk from Hankyu 'Umeda Station.' Be careful when walking at night as there are many touts in the area. Business hours are 12:00 PM to 4:00 AM the next day (late-night operation) from Monday to Saturday, and 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM on Sundays. It is primarily a late-night 'shime ramen' spot, bustling with customers after 10:00 PM. With 14 counter seats, the turnover is good, and you can usually get in with about a 5-minute wait.
2Ordering and Payment
There is no ticket machine; orders are placed verbally at the counter after being seated. Signature items include Yangzijiang Ramen (880 yen), Paikou Ramen (980 yen, with braised pork belly topping), Wontonmen, Fried Rice (880 yen), and Gyoza (380 yen). Lunch sets like Set A (with white rice + stewed meat) and Set B (with fried rice) are available at a discount. Payment is cash only; credit cards, e-money, and QR code payments are not accepted.
3Seating and Receiving
There are only 14 counter seats. Some seats feature a unique rotating table counter where dishes are served by spinning the table without reaching directly to the staff. There are also regular non-rotating table seats. Dishes are served 3 to 5 minutes after ordering.
4Other
The soup is a clear salt chintan made from chicken and pork bones; it is recommended to taste it as is first. The garland chrysanthemum's unique bitterness and texture perfectly complement the salt soup, so enjoy it with your ramen. For Paikou Ramen, it's customary to enjoy the paikou separately at first, then add it to the soup later to change the flavor, or place it on white rice for a 'shime chazuke'-style meal.
