Men ni Hikariwo Bettei
麺に光を 別邸
Overview
Located on the 1st floor of the Namba Culture Building, just a 2-minute walk from Nankai Namba Station, this is a spin-off of "Men ni Hikari wo". Unlike the main store in Amerikamura, which features menu names based on music genres, this branch is characterized by a menu structured around the "~~ no Hikari" (Light of ~~) series and a more relaxed, adult-oriented space design. Many fans travel between Namba and Shinsaibashi specifically to compare the tastes of the main store and this branch, establishing it as one of the most popular restaurants in the Namba area. The signature "Shoyu no Hikari" (Light of Soy Sauce) features a golden soup as its star, meticulously simmered with four types of chicken parts, focusing on premium "Okukuji Shamo" local chicken, alongside Kyoto duck and whole chicken. For the kaeshi (tare), we blend four types of soy sauce, dried ingredients, and sake, primarily using the highest-grade product from "Kadonaga" (Yuasa Shoyu), a venerable soy sauce maker founded in 1831 (Tenpo 12). This achieves a deep, mellow soy sauce flavor with no harsh edges. Chicken oil (chiyu) from Shamo chicken and duck is used, creating a clear broth (chintan) that perfectly balances sharpness and richness without impurities. Another signature, "Kai no Hikari" (Light of Shellfish), is a translucent shellfish dashi soup, carefully simmered with Hiroshima oysters, asari clams, and various dried ingredients. While offering a clear and light taste, it distinctly delivers rich seafood umami. Travelers who prefer salt-based or seafood-based ramen give it particularly high marks. The exploration of dashi variations, such as "Dashi no Hikari" (a blend of three Japanese-style soy sauces), "Dashi ni Hikari" (Japanese-style dried sardines, bonito flakes, and kelp), and the limited-time "Sansho no Hikari" (Light of Sansho pepper), offers another unique way to enjoy the Men ni Hikari wo brand. Toppings include two types of chashu (chicken breast and pork shoulder loin), a gooey ajitama (marinated egg), yuzu peel (which enhances the crispness of Yuasa soy sauce), purple onion, mitsuba (Japanese parsley), shiraga negi (shredded white green onion), and green onions, all composed to balance visual beauty and taste. A special service offers a free ajitama or chashu upon LINE friend registration, so adding us on LINE before your meal is recommended for extra value.
How to Order
1Before entering
This is a spin-off of "Men ni Hikari wo" located on the 1st floor of Namba Culture Building, approximately 2 minutes walk from Nankai Namba Station. It has the same business hours as the main store (America-mura): Mon, Tue, Fri, Sat, Sun 11:30-15:00 / 18:00-20:30, closed Wed and Thu (open if a public holiday). Due to its station-front location, queues form easily, and it is not uncommon for nearly 20 people to line up before opening on holidays. Being under an elevated structure, it is sheltered from rain, but wind can pass through, so winter clothing is recommended. There are 8 counter seats and 2 tables (2 seats each), with a waiting area inside the shop.
2Purchasing meal tickets / Ordering
Purchase meal tickets from the vending machine immediately upon entering. The vending machine has English descriptions but no pictures. Unlike the main store's music genre-themed menu, this store's menu is a "Light of ○○" series, featuring Shoyu no Hikari (Light of Soy Sauce, 1190 yen), Kai no Hikari (Light of Shellfish, Hiroshima oyster salt, 1290 yen), Dashi no Hikari (Light of Broth, Japanese-style soy sauce 3-blend), Sansho no Hikari (Light of Sansho, limited), Dashi ni Hikari (Light to Broth, Japanese-style), Tokusei (Special, with 2 types of char siu and flavored egg, 1570 yen), and others. The signature dishes are Shoyu no Hikari and Kai no Hikari. Payment is cash only; cards, e-money, and QR payments are not accepted.
3Seating and receiving your order
The staff will guide you to your seat, so sit down and hand them your meal ticket. The service is attentive, and the beautiful noodle presentation with a clear, beautiful soup is a unique characteristic of the main store.
4Other
The 'kaeshi' (tare) is made primarily from chicken broth and Yuasa Shoyu "Kakucho" (a premium soy sauce established in 1841), blended with four types of soy sauce, dried ingredients, and sake. The chicken oil uses Shamo chicken and duck. Ingredients include two types of char siu, a meltingly tender flavored egg, and yuzu peel, with the yuzu aroma effectively changing the flavor profile in the latter half of the meal. Registering as a LINE friend offers free services like a flavored egg or char siu, so adding LINE beforehand is beneficial.
